To build a successful Learning and Development team we need to look at the skills each member is good at. By doing it we can use our own team for the inhouse learning. For the additional learning requirements we need to set up meeting among the team to discuss about learning solutions which should always be in line with the company’s strategies and post that involve external recourses if required to deliver the knowledge

It's important to offer regular feedback and coaching loops with team members to gauge which learning options are most effective and well-received. This iterative approach ensures that you continue to refine your offerings based on real-time feedback, enhancing the overall learning experience for your team. Also, offer learning options that cater to different developmental stages. For example, consider providing advanced courses for experienced team members while offering foundational (internal o external) training, mentorship or coaching for those who are just starting. This approach acknowledges that individuals continue to grow and develop throughout their careers and need tailored opportunities that align with their developmental stage.

Letting people choose how they engage in learning is great if you have ample budget and/or a small team however if you're trying to address the needs of a larger team or are on a tight budget finding ways to maximize learning are helpful. It may be helpful to prioritize what the team needs to focus on first, identify the tools and training that is available to the team, and layer in ways to maximize learning like having team members with advanced skills mentor those who are still learning. This not only helps with skill building but can increase the connections and trust between the team.

Although classroom training has several advantages such as peer interaction, group discussions, promotion of active participation, etc., we must not neglect technology and modern learning methods and platforms. These alternative methods offer options to those who cannot attend classroom training for any reason. Some of these options include online learning at one's own pace, scheduled online training, webinars, and reading materials. However, it is essential to address the potential weaknesses of these flexible options, such as exchanging ideas with peers, participation, raising questions, sharing best practices, etc., in a practical manner.

Adult development often involves the integration of new knowledge and experiences into one's existing framework of understanding. Encouraging collaboration and sharing can play a vital role in this process. It's important to emphasize that learning is not just about acquiring new information but also about integrating it into one's existing knowledge base. Encourage team members to engage in discussions and peer-to-peer teaching, mentoring and or coaching as this helps individuals construct a deeper understanding of the subject matter by connecting it to their prior experiences and perspectives.

The pace of change is not likely to slow down so finding ways to learn collaboratively will be key. We are beyond a time of having single subject matter experts who know it all because we need many voices and experiences at the table to solve complex problems. Finding ways to share peoples expertise, to learn cross functionally, and to apply what's being learned to real life challenges can develop a culture of learning that will be agile and adaptable.

Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and adopting best practices have been some of the most valuable professional experiences I have had. Through this, I have not only learned new things but also passed on my knowledge to colleagues who have later succeeded in their roles and careers. I believe that this should be a fundamental aspect of every department, team, and colleague. It's also important to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing between colleagues from different departments, even if they are planning to move to another department or function. For remote teams, it's crucial to have adequate tools and systems in place to ensure that they don't miss out on any opportunities and stay up-to-date with development.

Adult learners thrive when they see the relevance and practicality of their learning efforts. I want to highlight the importance of aligning recognition and rewards with the individual's developmental goals and career aspirations. By recognizing achievements in ways that directly relate to their personal growth and development, you reinforce the idea that learning contributes to their ongoing professional journey. This approach is particularly powerful for adult learners who are motivated by career advancement and personal growth. Also, it's important to set clear, achievable milestones and tracking progress toward them to make the recognition process more objective and transparent.

Definitely recognize achievements and make time to recognize the lessons learned and the progress made. When you're starting to build a culture of learning it will be easy for people to slip back into busy mode where everything else is a fire and learning takes a back seat. Make sure to reward the behaviors you want to see so it becomes an established norm to take time for learning.

In my opinion, excessive praise does not serve much purpose unless it is given under special circumstances or for particularly challenging tasks. If the company culture is well-established, and if you have hired individuals who align with the company's values and culture, then every employee will be motivated to learn and develop. This is beneficial for both the employee's career growth, as well as for the company. In such a culture, everyone wins. However, if an employee views training and development as an obstacle, then it's unlikely that praise alone will change their behavior for the better in the long term.

In times of uncertainty many people will not feel comfortable letting go of work to learn because they'd rather appear busy even if the work they're doing no longer serves a purpose or provides value. As a leader you must be able to relentlessly prioritize the work that is critical and replace busy work or obsolete work with learning. This includes you learning along side the team or on your own. Paving the way for people to have the capacity and time to learn as well as showing them that even you as a busy leader are engaging too will help create the learning culture you want to see.

It is very important to involved leadership on this. Leaders can actively demonstrate a growth mindset by sharing their own learning journeys and failures. Moreover, it's essential to create a feedback-rich environment where constructive criticism is welcomed and seen as an opportunity for growth. By reinforcing that mistakes are part of the learning process and encouraging resilience in the face of challenges, leaders can inspire their team to embrace a growth mindset as well. Encourage leaders to create opportunities for team members to engage in self-assessment and reflection on their learning and development journeys. This helps team members to take ownership of their growth and fosters a sense of autonomy and self-directed learning,

When it comes to building a strong workforce, the hiring process plays a crucial role. It is important to hire people who possess the right attitudes, behaviors, and values. Skills can always be taught, but hiring individuals with a growth mindset is key. While not everyone is enthusiastic about learning and development, individuals who possess a positive attitude, curiosity, a willingness to embrace challenges, and an openness to move out of their comfort zone can be given a small incentive to spark their motivation. This could be a training program they are interested in, a seminar at a nearby hotel, or an out-of-office training. It is important to find out what motivates and inspires your employees to keep their passion alive.

Show your personal dedication to growth and learning as a leader. Share your personal development accomplishments and experiences. Your passion may spread to your colleagues, motivating them to emulate it. Establish clear expectations by making it clear that team members' roles should include opportunities for learning and growth. Establish clear objectives and targets for their professional development. Let them know how their growth affects the team's success. Establish a culture that encourages team members to discuss ideas, ask questions, and make errors without fear of repercussions.
