Start by acknowledging that this is the first time in human history that we regularly have up to 5 named generations working together to collaborate & solve complex problems. Disrupt the obvious stereotypes. Best to use a self-reflective technique and allow each person to share a stereotype about their own generation. Frame topics around common ground and shared experiences.

After completing the development of leadership competencies, I recommend that you focus on the flexibility skill to switch between leadership models for teams and individuals.

It’s important to focus on the fundamentally human aspects of leadership. What drives us, how and why do we connect with others, how to stay vulnerable and authentic to build trust but not in a way that discredits you. Leadership is about people, so stick with and go deep on the fundamentals.

The first thing to address in perspective. With this number of generations in the workforce, it is all too common to hear someone use a person's generation to place blame or reason through an issue. This is also a perspective shift. For example, when I hear someone complain that the younger generation struggles to take action without needing information repeated, I remind them that they have never needed to retain information for long because they have always had the internet to rely on. This shifts the focus from an 'annoying problem,' to creating a needed solution.

I'm going to be contrarian here. I'll ignore any references and labels to the different generations and focus on traits and behaviors that leaders need to have. This will cut across generations and be inclusive. Of course the delivery of the training is important as needs to be blended to include the different learning modes according to age, rather than generation.
