Having knowledge of your student audience is important. Even more important is understanding that all students learn differently and retain information at various rates. My presentation style has been compared to the Phil Donahue Show. I like to present a piece of content, and then ask the audience questions about it. This of course plays well off of the “Know Your Audience” item. To get the conversation started, I’ll directly call on someone that I already know, or someone that I met and chatted with on the way into the venue.

It truly helps to set a mood for the group. Opportunities to collaborate during the training is always important, especially in a group of people that don't know each other. Curiosity is always high because naturally want to know more about the people in the room, why they are in the room, their thoughts, interests and what stimulates them. At the end of each training, I always ask each participant to share one concept or ah-ha moment that they will use immediately.

So, how can we also learn with a child like curiosity! 1. Objective is in the "Exploring" The spirit to explore is the need to know things beyond the obvious 2. Effectiveness is in "Having Fun" If the participant is able to have fun during the learning process and is able to immerse themselves in the situation, that is real effectiveness. 3. End result is in the "Experience" Creating an experience that will tag along for the rest of the participants life journey

TREAT THEM LIKE THE ADULTS THAT THEY ARE: Coming from a K-12 teaching background, I gained valuable insights when I transitioned to tutoring adults. One crucial lesson was realizing the significance of treating adult learners in a manner befitting their maturity. We need to remember that many of these learners enter your classroom with various opinions, views and life experiences. It's important to acknowledge this fact. In adult education, it's not just about delivering quality content; building a robust relationship holds equal importance. From my personal observations, when learners feel respected, they not only engage more positively with the material but also exhibit a greater willingness to be vulnerable and seek support when needed.
