One thing I found helpful is the use of test samples. Throwing particle can be challenging if you don't know the technique. Also, re-inspecting parts they may have done and pointing out things to look for, such as, common areas where the part has failed before. Also knowing how the part was made. If it's a casting or a forging. It will help eliminate different discontinuities from what the inspector may be seeing.
