Machine learning models are often evaluated based on metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. However, these metrics assume that the costs of false positives and false negatives are equal or irrelevant. In reality, different types of errors may have different impacts on the outcomes and objectives of the model. For example, a spam filter that mistakenly labels a legitimate email as spam may annoy the user, but a spam filter that lets a malicious email pass through may expose the user to security risks.
