How can you identify if your employees are disengaged?

As per my knowledge, a happy employee is always an asset to the Company likewise, an unsatisfied employee has to be considered as a liability. As per my opinion, the primary step is to assess the Manager how he treats his associates and it will reflect in their performance and engagement.

According to me, disengagement happens when there is no communication within Team, no empathy and when they work like machine. This could be due to work load or they don't care about what is happening around . Also, at times work becomes monotonous and employee might feel why to learn new technology when they have to do same boring job. It is important to understand what employees are going through as they are assets of the company. This can be solved by setting time for team meetings, team outing, having healthy conversations and most important to set realistic goals and to appreciate good work.

I have observed that the disengaged employees had a low energy at workplace, the high absenteeism rate, lack of interest, taking task as a burden , no participation in learning new things. The employee can be engaged by proper counselling, appreciation, identity the demotivating factor and resolving the issue may make the employee the most engaged .

A disengaged employee might communicate less with colleagues and supervisors. They may not be open to sharing ideas or discussing work-related matters.

Signs of employee disengagement include decreased productivity, lack of enthusiasm, frequent absences, and disinterest in company goals. Conducting regular check-ins, surveys, and encouragement open communication can help identify and address disengagement.

Spotting a dip in work quality and quantity can be a clear red flag, signaling employee disengagement. It's more than just underperformance; it reflects a deeper disconnect.
