How can you innovate HR culture?

Diversity and Inclusion practices are difficult to implement and sustain, as it lands different for each individual. Organisations need to take a longer term view on this topic and not blindly run after short term metrics, that can impact their culture in the long run. One of the ways, I find effective, is to consciously keep a diversity and inclusion lens in all decision making processes - enabling executives to be aware of the impact of such decisions. Conscious actions, consistently aligned with the inclusion values of an organsiation have a far greater impact on its diversity than short term tactical metrics. Having said that, short term tactical metrics do help create awareness and focus on the topic and can be an effective tool too.

Innovation in HR culture is an ongoing process. It requires a commitment to continuous improvement, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace change. By fostering an environment that values creative thinking and experimentation, you can drive meaningful innovation throughout your organization's HR practices.

L&D professionals will have to be keen observants to understand culture, profiles and average age too to create and develop and execute interventions. Here's an example. An old organisation, 100+ years giant with average age +40, a big library, yet no reading habits. A conscious decision was taken and a four page monthly select readings bulletin would be shared with the senior executives offering short summaries of the relevant articles published around the world along with stories.The activity was continued for 11 years. Passion, deep understanding, commitment and dedication with the objective of getting people grow has to be the key traits. These traits together would push the person and their teams to innovate in HR too... RS

I was part of one of the biggest collaborative experiments in the company where each and every employee was encouraged to get involved in some improvement project either as individual or a member of the team. Whole organisation marched forward with accountability and a monitoring system with fortnightly reviews was put in place.. HR Strategic Initiatives were decided which were aligned with every other system of the organisation be it Mfg or Design or Materials.. Many an interventions were innovated and introduced... RS
