I made a promise to myself to go the entirety of 2023 without buying any new clothing. I did it! Except for one pack of new 100% cotton socks. Nobody wants blisters on their feet while getting their steps in. It was easier than I thought, even for a Fashion fan like me. I think two or 3 yrs without would be much harder because clothes DO start to wear out.

Buy what you need, keep it for as long as possible and recycle with SIXR when you are done with it. We are only recycling (textile to textile) less than 1% of our garments globally. Buying quality products and taking good care of them will last you a really long time. I own a bomber jacket from Tommy Hilfiger which is 7-8 years old and to this day there is almost no signs of any wear and tear, the color has definitly toned down but everything else is just fine. Swap,borrow and rent will definitely help to cut additional 80% of clothes in our wardrobes that we wear only occasionally. Data says we only wear 20% of garments 80% of the time. Again SIXR start up aims to facilitate clothing swap and rental.

Once you become a thrifter, you will love it! And you might besurprised, but getting a thrifted garment altered can be much more economical than the price of new brand items. If you can shift your mindset away from the idea that items not being brand new makes them less valuable, you can create an amazing wardrobe for a fraction of the cost.
