Mastering persuasion in speeches involves understanding ethos, which establishes credibility and trust with your audience. To utilize ethos effectively, establish yourself as an authority on the topic by highlighting relevant qualifications or experiences. For example, in a speech on climate change, mention your background in environmental science. Also, demonstrate sincerity and integrity in your delivery to appear genuine and trustworthy. By establishing a strong ethos, you enhance your persuasive power, as audiences are more likely to be swayed by speakers they perceive as knowledgeable and honest.

To truly persuade with your speeches, consider establishing your expertise and speak confidently to build trust. Stories and metaphors make your message relatable. Think of emotions that support your point, but keep it real – audiences can smell a fake a mile away. Also see if there is a hot topic related to your message and use it. You need to also think of timing in your delivery too – slow down for emphasis, pick up the pace for excitement. Finally, practice delivery to refine your voice and gestures.

Most listeners have experienced countless moments in which they could use the same descriptors. These moments of intense feeling instantaneously draw the audience in, make them empathize with you. They imagine themselves in that moment with you. It humanizes you and creates a bond in that room.
