How can you optimize gas condensate reservoir production?

Gas condensate reservoirs are one of the most valuable reservoirs in the world because valuable gas has associated condensate with it, however producing these reservoirs below dew point causes condensate banking in reservoir or well bore which resulted in loss of valuable condensate. Optimizing gas condensate reservoir production involves understanding reservoir characteristics, building accurate simulation models, optimizing well placement and pressure management, employing advanced monitoring, considering tailored EOR methods, optimizing the production system, implementing real-time management, evaluating stimulation techniques, reassessing field development, and ensuring environmental compliance.

Gas condensate reservoirs can be brilliant - if you have a high CGR, low dew point and lots of reservoir pressure (eg HPHT) you get liquid rates similar to oil reservoir with gas reservoir recovery factors ! Elgin-Franklin in the N sea springs to mind. Condensate banking can be a problem but typically only if the permeability isn't great. If permeability is good the condensate stripping and high permeability means you still get a good PI. One very important point about condy reservoirs is the initial sampling, particularly if the dew point is close to the reservoir pressure.....

7) Control water encroachment is important in gas condensate development. Understanding the characteristic of the natural aquifer is first step, then a few perspective to consider as list below: i) Adjust well completion strategy ( horizontal wells, smart completion, ICD, AICD...). ii) Production drawdown control ii) Water shut-off application iv) Drill water disposal wells to prevent encroachment into gas zones. 8) Sand production risk is getting higher and higher when pressure is depleting. Continuous monitoring and mitigation is critical.

7.1 Mitigate water risk, Drill the exploration well until the bottom of the reservoir to get a hint for any possible water contacts and take core samples to know the deliveribality, permeability kv/kh of the aquifer if any; if no water contacts are found still put mitigation on water risk since your reservoir can be an edge water aquifer driving mechanism and this can be found if you have the luxury to drill a delineation well on the edge of the reservoir to confirm the structure limitation and any edge water occured. 7.2 Real time surveillanve P&T and periodically saturation logs to evaluate HC & contact movements, install surveillance P&T gauge within the completion system of the well, utilizing the exploration well or delineation well
