In some industry it might not make such a difference, in others, you might end up with a product impossible to manufacture if you select a material most manufacturers don't support.

In my experience, optimizing a product for manufacturing involves collaborating closely with production teams, simplifying design elements, leveraging standardized components, and utilizing efficient manufacturing processes such as Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.

Develop prototypes for testing before proceeding with actual manufacturing or establishing production processes.

In most cases, 3D prototyping will save you time and money in the development process and you should at leats consider it a viable option for most designs. It might not be the most common route in all industries but you should definitely take advantage of today's technology. However, you should never enter production without having a fully tested physical prototype to back your design up.
