How can you use your personal brand to network effectively?

Branding is the way people perceive that entity, what do they feel, what thought comes to mind, what do they associate it with. This applies to companies and individuals alike. Personal brands help you establish your identity in front of people, helping them understand your experiences, your thought process and opinions. In today's markets, you need to stand out to sell your products/ services and building a brand for a company is a slow process. People relate to individuals more and prefer watching creators over companies in the pretext that companies would probably sell something eventually. Through your personal brand, you can carve your niche and build a community around that.

Personal Branding is an important part of NETWORKING. Personal brand is not branding yourself. Its You Branding your WORK. When you are proving value , which are authentic to you and being highly accountable on your work, reflecting on feedback and improving yourself everyday, people like to connect with you and that will help you increase your network connection

So many people think that they have to build their personal brand, that they don’t have one. Newsflash - you already have a personal brand, even though you might not have a clue what it is! Your brand could be described as your reputation; its the perception that we have of you. It’s your strengths, passions, values, qualities, skills that make you unique. It’s what makes you memorable. How you present yourself to the world. What you bring to the table. I think a really helpful way of coming to understand what your personal brand is, is by asking yourself what you want to be known for. That’s of the most important steps.

I also think personal brand is how you choose to be perceived by peers. Some people are authentic and their personal brand is naturally attractive, some folks put intention into their personal brand for a specific purpose (clout, monetary gain, ego, etc…)

Building a personal brand was something of a novel concept 10-15 years ago. Today, in this creator economy where seemingly every young person has or wants to build a brand, it is less unique. That said, it is still as important as ever (if not more important). Our relationships are increasingly virtual, and our first interactions are often online. When the first experience we have of a person is as a thought leader who publishes content and displays domain expertise, this provides some initial data that this person is serious about their work. Ultimately, a personal brand provides leverage, opens doors, provides social proof, and so much more. So is it worth the effort? Yes. As long as it’s done authentically and in an aligned manner.

If you can define your goals, you will find the people who can help you to reach the goals. I always recommend to get into connection with others. Find out more about their interest, find similarities in your lives and interests to get connect.

I always stress to new networking colleagues that I will help them and they can help me, a 50-50 proposition. I kick off the relationship, offering them something I read that may appeal to them, asking them to comment on my LinkedIn posts and I certainly comment on theirs. I assess their value as a networker and introduce them to others in my networks that will benefit from meeting them. I follow up to be sure the connection was made and is beneficial. To me my network is my net worth, and any loose link in the chain weakens the entire network, so I am selective and aggressive in keeping my name and reputation as a networker intact and freshened with the best I can surround myself with.

Always offer something relevant and worthy to your network, by sharing your encounters, experience & point of views, so that learning becomes the centerpiece of the brand building; avoid talking about yourself in the process.

You need to ensure you are building a brand to a specific audience . Make yourself relatable to people. Also ensure all of your marketing channels have a consistent message and look and feel
