Be respectful and introduce yourself without too many hype, not necessary. Avoid asking too many questions on the first meet, it turns off many people as a meeting turns subtle interrogative session. Ask open-ended question instead to build rapport. Be honest and simple to create a lasting relationship. Communicate your goals and values sincerely. And be opened for more catch ups only at convenient time of the clock for both parties.

Don’t wait for your new colleagues to reach out to you first. Make the effort to reach out and connect. Learn about their background and let them know that you are there for any questions or to be pointed in the right direction.

The best teams are made up of different people who find ways to work well together. Once, I made a new friend at work because we both liked a very unusual science fiction story. This helped us talk about more than just work, and it made working together easy and natural. Being real and honest is very important. Pretending to like something just to make someone like you can end up badly. The best way to get along with your coworkers is to be genuinely interested in them. It's always uncomfortable being the new guy/gal. Make sure they don't feel out of place. I remember joining a team and not being invited out, and I felt like such a loser. It was not a good feeling because of those moments, I'll never forget how bad that felt. I try to be inclusive as much as possible. Even if they don't go out. It's the thought that counts.
