Before you start building your bass trap, you need to measure your room and determine the dimensions and placement of your device. You can use a tape measure, a level, and a calculator to do this. First, measure the length, width, and height of your room, and multiply them to get the volume. Then, divide the volume by the speed of sound (343 meters per second) to get the fundamental frequency of your room. This is the lowest frequency that can fit in your room, and it is usually the most problematic one. Next, measure the distance between the corners and the walls, and divide it by four. This is the minimum thickness of your bass trap, which should cover at least a quarter of the wavelength of the fundamental frequency. Finally, measure the height of your walls, and subtract the thickness of your bass trap. This is the maximum height of your bass trap, which should not exceed the wall height.
