The skills and talents we have got in operating of sales needs to be developed and supported by other professions. I agree that sales are not about exchanging product or service with money but having a deep understanding of how the business runs, what is behind the product (i.e. technical point of view), and also a clear and formal interpersonal communication. having additional professions will help to grow the sales skill and retain the talent.

That would be great to have great Communication skills as good as Technical Skills. Technical Skills is very Important but Communication is key to deliver Information with Brief & Clear, which needed for all stakeholder that related.

Sales Operations career paths' depend on the responsibility of the function in a given organization. At its best, the Sales Operations function serves as the COO of the sales organization, and is fully empowered to make think and act strategically so that the sales engine is tuned for its best performance. Professionals in this scenario typically move along a career path towards sales management or business operations. At its worst, the Sales Operations function is more narrowly understood as the function that runs the CRM. In this scenario, the career path for professionals can look more like a cul de sac, with fewer moves available, primarily to other tactical systems or operations roles.

One thing I learned from building a Sales Ops team is to having the right responsibilities for each role. By having too many different areas of focus can cause your team to spread their attention too thin. This not only causes inefficiency in your team, but the organization. Without targeted roles and responsibilities, the career path is difficult to build. How will the team know what to build on and progress in the organization?

For sales operation you should develop horizontal career path. They can make their way up as a sales person career path. A successful sales person does not mean equally successful or good at administrational job.

Totally agree. Having a common vision and shared identity is critical, especially when you are building or expending the sales ops function.

We need to congratulate every small milestone in the sales process. Most of the time we only focus on the final step of conversion into sales, but to motivate in some of the long sales process we need to celebrate every step forward we achieve.This is the case when we are opening a new market, or launching a new product.

The culture shapes de company, and cultures is what you let happen in your company. Retains or pushes the talent. Everything is very nice and theorical. You can say we are a tema but if the INCENTIVES go for a ranking, fostering competitions within the team, then it collapses. Incentives and culture must be aligned.

Give them the tools and bandwidth they need to succeed, provide clear expectations that all tie back to the mission and goals of the company, coach them, encourage them to continue furthering their skill development and education (challenging assumptions and learning), then GET OUT OF THE WAY!
