Regarding IT automation, one of the biggest pain points can be a lack of flexibility. From my perspective, the three biggest goals in automation, are to reduce man hours, repeatability, and reduce human error. This doesn't normally come in one package for all of your IT Operations. Understanding that sometimes the process of fitting that square peg into the round hole for the sake of having it all under one umbrella might not make the most sense or be the best use of time. Many parts of IT have their own automation systems, and leveraging them all can many times be the smartest position to take. There are many automation "solutions", however none are really a one size fits all solution.

Why need automation, three main reasons from my perspective. Increase of workload, New Technology, Human Errors. Let me explain with simple examples. 1. Day by day when systems grow you get higher expectations to maintain and monitor systems. This increase of workload where its impossible to handle with current team. To reduce that extra effort solution is automation. 2. When we are dealing with applications, projects, there are situation where you need to use new tools and technologies which need different subject matter experts to develop systems.
