How do you find your social media audience?

Always map your social objectives to that of your business. I always set out the desired impact of a Business Objective and then the social media objective(s) to achieve this. Then set out your KPIs for each social objective and the metrics you'll use per channel. You've got to demonstrate the value you're providing via social, otherwise there's little point in hitting publish on your content.

Define your target audience, use social media analytics tools, conduct market research, analyze competitor audiences, leverage social media targeting options, and engage with relevant communities.

Make sure to set SMART goals: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound objectives that guide content strategies. They involve defining clear targets for metrics like follower growth, engagement rates, or website traffic, ensuring progress can be quantified.

Discovering your ideal social community takes self-reflection like a quest to find your spirit animal. Analyze current followers and amplify what makes you unique. Observe wider conversations to identify gaps your perspective could fill. Test and refine based on feedback. Have faith your kindred spirits are seeking you too. With patience, your niche will magnetically find you. Now channel your inner social media shaman to unlock the audience you vibe with!

Upon researching come up with an EMPATHY MAP Essentially, an empathy map is a square divided into four quadrants with the Ideal client persona (ICP) in the middle. Each of the four quadrants comprises a category that helps us delve into the mind of the ICP. The four empathy map quadrants look at what the person says, thinks, feels, and does.

If you don't know who your ideal customers are then you can't tailor your message to them. In turn, this means that they won't engage or have a reason to remember your business because the message you are sending them isn't relevant. Start by looking at who your current customers are and put together a profile of each one. This profile should include their location, industry, the problem they're trying to solve by working with you, turnover and anything else you think is relevant to you. Once you have this you can cross-reference the information and identify common attributes that your customers share. Using this information will enable you to spot other potential customers that share those traits and target your message accordingly.

Creating user personas is crucial as they provide a clear and empathetic understanding of your target audience's needs, preferences, and pain points. By personifying your customers, you can tailor marketing strategies and product development to effectively address their specific desires, leading to more impactful and resonant interactions. For instance, a travel company crafting a persona named "Adventure-seeking Amy" would shape their offerings and content to match her desire for off-the-beaten-path experiences, ultimately enhancing customer engagement and loyalty.

Create bridges through common interests. In the theme of staying playful and interested, keep research enjoyable by stepping into the worlds of your target demographic. Follow your curiosity as you investigate what your customers are getting excited about. What common interests do you have with your customers? What common interests with your competitors?

You don't need to be on every social platform. Trying to be everywhere will divide your focus and distract from your core mission of meaningfully engaging your audience. Instead, choose 1 or 2 platforms to focus on (at least to start). Ask yourself: - Where does my audience already spend time? - What type of content do they find most valuable? - What content can I create for my audience on this platform that will be unique or stand out? For example, I share content on LinkedIn and via my newsletter because that's where my audience of media & tech professionals like to engage. You gotta fish where the fish are!

Social media can be a huge time-loss for businesses, especially if there is only a small marketing team. Instead of trying to be active on every platform that you can think of, identify the platforms where your audience spends the most time and focus your attention on the top 2/3 platforms.

Also, don't dismiss a platform before you've looked into opportunities to join groups and communities (e.g. Facebook or LinkedIn groups). These communities of shared interests can offer a more intimate and engaged audience, fostering meaningful connections and discussions around your brand or niche to a more receptive audience, ultimately enhancing your brand's credibility and visibility.

Explore different platforms and then select those that will have the most impact and are sustainable for you to contribute to. Is there a particular platform that you enjoy the most? Use your time in that platform to keep yourself interested in others that may not hold as much interest. When you're interested and engaged in what you're doing, that will give energy to the rest of your process!

To know what content is of value to your audience you need to: TEST. Without trying different types of content you won't know what resonates / drives you results. Some content might be: Good for engagement but = No leads. (Viral type content) Great conversation starters = Builds relationships Niche content / lower engagement = Inbound leads / DM's It's good to have a mix - but don't make the viral posts your priority. Most of your buyers will be the lurkers who just watch and consume... and then eventually buy. Make content that goes deeper rather than wider. Your customer isn't everyone.

Consider the pyramid with the Three E's of Content Marketing (Entertaining, Emotional and Educational) to create content that creates the buzz your brand is looking to generate!

Experience and ask for opinions! You don't start with content and it's a hit with a million of views and great engagement numbers. Start with content that you are comfortable with and don't feel like a robot or that you are afraid of comments, because they could ask this or that and you are afraid if you can answer it. Start with that content and have some team members behind you, who could help you with specific questions. Don't be afraid to also ask for opinions or questions. We are all humans and if e.g. I get a question about our software in the comments it's great. Maybe sometimes I have to answer that I ask a team member, but as long as I answer it's totally fine.

Discover what your audience enjoys and finds value in most by sharing a range of content. And see what types of content your audience is already engaged with and bring your own voice to that type of content.

Maximize your networking potential with a simple strategy, reconnecting with people you already know. Instead of endlessly scrolling through social media for new connections, focus on building relationships with individuals you've already established a connection with. Whether it's a person you met at an event, someone you interacted with in the comments section of a live video, a contact in your phone, or even that stack of business cards you never used, it's time to take action. Reach out and send connection requests, introducing yourself and mentioning how you first connected. By doing so, you'll create more meaningful connections, enjoy smoother conversations, and achieve better results.

An easy way to engage with not only an audience but a content creator as well Is to think like a consumer. Did the content trigger an emotion or thought? Share it with them! Doing so shows not only them but their audience that you’re not commenting for spam purposes OR trying to poach their followers. Present yourself as a normal human being and make those human connections.

Engage with your audience in a way that seems human. A lot of brands that provide repetitive replies are not taken seriously. Netflix is a great example of a brand that knows how to engage with their audience on social media platforms.

With your engagement, stay positive and helpful. Keeping a light tone with enthusiasm will uplift and bring value to everyone!

Identify your B2B target by industry, role, and needs. LinkedIn, due to its professional users, is vital for B2B. Utilize its analytics for insights on your audience's industries, roles, and company sizes. Engage in relevant LinkedIn groups, observe your competitors' followers. Twitter is also beneficial; join industry-specific discussions and track relevant hashtags. Produce quality, relevant content to attract your audience. Use engagement data and feedback for continual strategy refinement, aligning your social media efforts with your intended B2B audience's preferences. In B2B marketing, prioritize relationship building and expertise showcasing. Be consistent, authentic, and patient as building a targeted audience is a gradual process.

Start with your Newsletter topics. Write the text like you will explain the content to someone who doesn't knwo what you are talking about exactly. And engage - Write with the people in the comments. Let your co-workers know that you are posting and explain, that they connect with their customers on Linkedin and share the content, too.
