It's common sense please and thanks goes a long way. Acknowledging people in front of their peers. Asking them for their input on decisions. It's not rocket science.

I know a lot of people who work in warehousing that feel unvalued by DC leadership. It is difficult to create a positive work environment in warehousing, but there are other aspects that can be improved. Offer a higher wage to negate turnover. Reward the people who consistently pick orders at 100% or perform other tracked functions with no issues (this is huge because mistakes). Keep the expectations for shifts consistent. Shifts run from 9 hours (if they're cut early because of business needs) to over 13 hours (if certain goals still need to be met). Changing the expectations for when employees come in each week and when they go home just kills morale. Spend money to train and develop employees.

Staff are inspired when they know how to do the job and have confidence in their abilities, then- Accuracy improves, efficiency increases, productivity in workflow rises. Retention of staff is maintained.

This is a very key fundamental to influence your people. Reward can be gauge in different terms but in my opinion these are the key items to be focused for rewarding warehousing staff; 1. Provide a safe working environment 2. Arrange a training and development program on continuous basis. 3. Assign an area & equipment ownership 4. Empower them involving in short term decision making. 5.Make them feel valued via notifying the linkage of their work with the business deliverables. 6.Recognize them in public for the good work and pass a feedback in personal for the improvements. 7. Drive "Best employee of the month reward" to build a healthy competition. 7.Give a token of appreciation as a monthly Incentives, for achieving KPI targets.

Getting back feedback from employees about their issues and also ways to improve the quality of work by providing the very important resources that are required for them. By getting some important feedbacks from employees & workers both by means of process oriented & personal oriented will make them feel that they are important for the company and in this way we can build their trust and thereby they will feel motivated

Getting feedback from the employees is also critical. But before you ask for feedback make sure you are ready to act on it. Management structures that ask for feedback from the floor personnel and act upon it tend to be more effective, as the floor personnel often sees a lot of opportunities for improvements. Vertical management structures that do not ask for feedback from the team are, as a rule, less efficient, but at least they are consistent. The worst cultures are the ones where the managers ask for feedback only to check the box and forget all about it in a few minutes. This is seen as hypocrisy and quickly erodes the company culture from within. Be consistent and walk the talk.

Create multy functional team, in which each team member can perform various tasks. This helps to keep the motivation and team spirit. Delegating operational tasks to shift leads, so that they can realize their role in decision making and in reaching the site goal

Remember how important warehouse staff are, involve them and keep then updated with any changes, invite their ideas as they will be vital for including honest feedback. Really listen to them and hold regular feedback sessions with points actioned to create a togetherness culture.

Empowerment & recognition is key. Giving warehouse staff ownership of their area and tasks gives people confidence,a sense of belonging & generates loyalty. Reward is not just in the form of wages either, recognise success by occaisionally taking the guys out of the work environment & enjoying a team day out involving some fun activities.

If the management at some of these companies treat the staff more than just a clock number, they might reap more benefits in work from their staff

A warehouse is the heart of any business. If it is not run correctly everything else falls apart. Offering staff opportunities to upskill, in any shape or form, shows the staff that the company are willing to put their time and effort into them. In the end it is in the companies interest to have employees that have the capability and knowledge to do day to day activities to the best of their abilities which, in turn, benefits the company

To train employees safety and to learn the surroundings around where they work. To work as a team and to keep work areas clean. Safety is the important on all warehouses. Do daily stretches before shift start. This helps mussels from every day repetition.

I’m yet to find a warehouse that has offered remote working for warehouse operatives! At a push you may be allowed once or twice to have flexi hours but the problem is warehouse staff are treated as commodities by higher management.

A wise person said, take care of the people and the rest will fall into place. Fortunate to work for a company that truly values every team member and understands that life happens. Never saw a company be so flexible and understanding.

This is a slippery slope. I do not agree with implementing flexible hours, or altered schedules. I believe we should work the schedule we signed up for. As long as the company offers a decent amount of pto, you are able to work around your personal needs.

The fair part should go without saying; like train your people and make the environment safe. The constant references to flexibility are unrealistic. Might work for a crew of 5-10, but not manageable for 150. You need to properly manage 1 policy, not try managing 150 different policies. What the article doesn’t seem to focus on are relationships. Very few outfits bother with true relationships. Knowing your people takes a bit of time, but a manager worth his/her salt will make the effort because that is the way people should be treated. Oh, and it also improves productivity and lowers turnover.

Instead of just pushing directions top down, discuss the exceptional scenarios with them and take their feedback about the feasibility of certain requirements. It's important to implement sustainable and scalable processes.

Still most of the company treating warehouse staff as nothing. Other departments staff thinking warehouse staff are involve only receiving and issuing. So we have to work to make them understand warehouse plying important role in any company, its an important part of scm, inventory consider as cash,... And so on

Many of the staff I led had vastly more experience in that warehouse than I and by involving them in decision making, small and large, they felt their voice was heard and it mattered. Often their input helped save the line and exceed our quota.

Start the day off right, & keep it going. Do the little things that show staff they are seen, heard, & observed with care. That means smile. At each & every person, always, no matter how many times they pass by. Say good morning, hello, or give a firm nod of acknowledgment. Wave. Give a fist pound or a high-five. Remind them throughout the day to hydrate; ask if they’ve had a snack break. Thank them whenever they do something well, carefully, safely or when they go the extra mile. Basically see them as an individual human & treat them as such. These actions take less than 10 seconds; most take less than 5 seconds to apply. But it changes the feel, culture, teamwork, & atmosphere. You create a strong tribe with simple acknowledgment.

The most important thing is to provide a safe working environment for all employees. None of the above points are relevant unless you can guarantee to all employees that they will leave work each day safely!!!

I always found it helpful to greet my whole team individually and to consistently keep an open door policy with them. Just to let them know we’re all are equal and are here to achieve the same goal to produce a good quality product.

Warehouse staff work hard and nobody wants to do a 12 hour shift. Split the team down introduce a middle shift and allow those who want to rotate between shifts. Communicate options and let them come to a collective decision. Good for improving morale and inspiring them on a decision they made
