That is a perfect tool, I apply it regularly, and I do it with intentional logic/informational gaps and a good dose of humor. It is a fantastic method especially at the beginning of class to capture the attention, and pin down dedicated attention, this is particularly applied to those who come a bit late into class 😀. This sets the "your focus is critical" tone. It works perfectly as I hover in all direction in class, shifting their attention and making students avoid distractions, and side conversation creatively.
