How do you prioritize UX tasks?

Each design task may has dependancies on PM for spec creation; so make sure the spec is in place. Also, a design task is incomplete without development, make sure the development team has their timelines aligned as well. If everything is ready you need to know three things: 1. When will development pick this up? Define delivery hard deadline. 2. How heavy is this task? Define design investment. 3. What is the business rank? Define product emergency. In larger organisations a great design producer can help guide you on which tasks should you pick up and when. This can help you micro focus on designs.

What if a UX designer is working with multiple product teams at the same time? Each team has its own set of well-defined goals and priority list, each team has the most critical and urgent challenge at any given time. Follow up with primary research like like interviews, surveys, usability testing, and observational studies. In this way you get the conviction on the user needs, pain points and preferences. This includes work backlogs, new idea pipelines and documents where product decisions are discussed. Finally, it is paramount to keep your users at the heart of everything you do and how you do it. Their needs and preferences should be at the centre.

For instance, with the increasing number of online frauds, trust and safety and customer experience teams need to work together. To get my foot in the door, I visibly showcase most prominent user issues and any stark mental model misalignment early in the project, so the usability issues get fixed ASAP. Such UX strategies commonly include UX guiding principles (simplicity, ease of use, intuitive, etc.) as well as UX goals (user engagement, reducing errors, conversion rates... that reflects a positive user experience), UX roadmap, resources, and can be both platform (website/mobile app) or product specific. They also must be aligned around business goals and benefits (revenue growth, cost reduction, reduced risk). These become your North Star for any important improvements.

What's not much talked about is the brand and big marketing in connection with UX. Brand promise accompanied with different ways the customer was approached creates expectations of the UX, designer needs to keep this in mind. User Experience does not happen in a silo. One can not conduct usability testing that would give truthful results, just a hints.

Break down tasks to figure out exactly what users need. Then, determine the ideal balance between user preferences and organizational requirements. It's about making smart choices, ditching unnecessary stuff, and focusing on what matters most. This way, you make the best use of your resources. Look at the big picture even if you have few resources. Make users happy, but don't lose sight of your company's objectives. Finding the ideal balance is like putting together a puzzle for a good design job.
