How do you regenerate materials and resources?

In the building industry, regenerating means flipping the coin: for decades, if not centuries, the built environment contributed to 40% CO2 emissions. Creating carbon-negative buildings from natural sources will lock CO2 from the air, thus regenerating nature around.

Regenerating is a crucial sustainability practice aimed at restoring, renewing, and revitalizing our planet's ecosystems. By recycling and upcycling waste into valuable new products, adopting circular economy principles to minimize waste, transitioning to renewable energy sources, & implementing sustainable agriculture practices, we work towards a more sustainable future. Water reclamation, the use of biodegradable materials, regenerative design, biomimicry for innovation, the development of sustainable materials, & participation in ecosystem restoration projects further contribute to this goal. These practices collectively ensure that resources are maintained and enriched, supporting the ecological balance necessary for future generations.

Regenerating is important to re-balance Earth's carbon cycle, build humanity's environmental awareness and improve our relationship with nature.

I view regeneration as essential for businesses to adopt sustainable practices that minimize negative impacts on resources and communities. By regenerating natural and social capital, businesses can avoid depletion and degradation, thus ensuring long-term viability and resilience in the face of environmental and social challenges. To regenerate natural capital it is imperative that we minimize creating waste and think long term with the Planet and next generations in focus, too. Developed societies should consciously reduce their environmental footprint.

To address the need for common, comparable metrics for corporate long-term value creation, the World Economic Forum's International Business Council (WEF-IBC), comprised of 120 global CEOs, has proposed a set of 21 core metrics and 34 expanded metrics. These metrics enable consistent and comparable Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures across industries and geographies, supporting four interconnected pillars aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: governance, people, planet, and prosperity. By adopting these metrics, companies can demonstrate progress toward purpose-driven goals and report on a broader spectrum of value in a clear and comparable manner.

Hempcreteyurt became my calling when I realized we urgently need collaborative action to transition the global building industry that contributed with 40% CO2 emissions for decades to a regenerative one that locks CO2 into our buildings, regenerating nature around.
