How do you use CAD and BIM in facility design?

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is a powerful software that offers digital representations of physical objects or systems in 2D or 3D form. Which can be easily manipulated, analyzed, and tested, helping professionals visualize and refine their designs before they are built in the real world. I acquainted with Building Information Modelling (BIM) when I attended first lecture in my master's study. This new feature in construction thrives me into learning more about BIM. There are different levels of BIM, each with a different level of detail and functionality. The most basic level is Level 0- 2D CAD drawing; Level 1- 3D CAD model; Level 2- 3D CAD model with detailed properties; Level 3- 4D time dimension BIM model; Level 4- 5D cost dimension BIM model; Level 5- is the most comprehensive level of building's environmental impact. BIM offers significant benefits to the construction industry-Improved efficiency and productivity, Reduced costs, Improved decision-making, Increased collaboration, Enhanced sustainability

During my time at West Bengal Police Housing and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., I revamped the outdated Malda police layout using Revit. This advanced software streamlined the process by allowing me to visualize and address potential issues, ensuring a functional final design. I began by gathering data on the existing layout. Using Revit's Structural template, I created a CAD model of existing layout, then optimized the layout using Phasing tools to remove walls, demolish portions of the floor. Add walls, floors, and ceilings under new construction phase. New furniture enhanced the aesthetics. Revit proved invaluable, facilitating the creation of an efficient, staff-friendly space. I highly recommend CAD software for facility design projects.

During my master's program, I interned at a construction company. My learned how to conduct clash detection tests between structural components and the water supply system. First we outlined project goals and deliverables, creating a BIM execution plan. We integrated the structural model and water supply system into Navisworks, running clash tests with the Clash Detective tool to optimize the design. To communicate our findings, we used the walk-through tool for a 3D visualization and shared conflict areas with the project manager. We also generated construction documents for the contractor. BIM proved invaluable, enhancing precision and efficiency, ultimately reducing costs and time. I highly recommend BIM for facility design projects.
