How does adaptability impact teaching success?

I believe Bruce Lee said it best: “Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” If teachers are water, then classes are cups. The more adaptable you are to your classes, the more easily you can tailor your approach to each group. Find the form needed to complement each class. Be like water. 💧

Digital divide is one major challenge of adaptability! Many find it difficult to cope up with the trend or even reluctant of getting to try a new feature or any adaptation. Proper training and proper resource bank is a must to overcome these issues

One thing I’ve found helpful is to always be open to reinventing oneself as an educator. Additionally, whenever thinking of innovating one’s pedagogical practices or any other practice; read literature, talk to what other faculty is doing and then think about how you can embed/contextualise it in your own context. This is a simple yet effective way to innovate. Also, I cannot emphasise the importance of mentors for perspective building and professional development. Sometimes we’re stuck in our echo chambers and mentors help us to rethink our mindsets fixed on old thought patterns. It’s important to question our assumptions and to think why are we doing what we’re doing and be willing to unlearn beliefs that are no longer helping us.

I agree with you on feedback from peers,ifonly it was done effectively instead of just pushing compliance. The different situations and learners we come across are a real challenge. We could also as teachers present different areas to our students, for example if one teacher is good in literature let them teach that and the other focus on language maybe increase the number of contact time

In my experience, adaptability has become a necessity for educators. Technology is changing at a very fast pace. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are continuously exposed to new types of technology, information and mobile applications at a hyper pace. This gives them an illusion of superiority to the respective teacher/facilitator/educator and is very damaging. Students are missing out on important soft skills and nougats of wisdoms, which can only be taught by humans. To bridge this gap, educators need to be adaptable to new trends in culture and technology, so the students can be comfortable in willingly interacting with them.
