How should you prepare for a Business Communications interview?

Understand the company's mission, values, and culture. Learn about the industry, competitors, and recent developments. Be aware of the role you're applying for and its specific requirements.

I like to research the people behind the company as well. It’s good to learn about their career journey either on their About Us page, personal websites, or LinkedIn profile. It adds to your confidence and allows you to gather intel on the people you may be working with. Plus, you may be able to ask more pointed follow up questions and/or tailor your responses to their questions.

Prepare for general interview questions, such as "Tell me about yourself" and "Why are you interested in this role?" Use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method to structure your responses to behavioral questions.

Prepare specific examples of your communication skills, like delivering presentations, writing reports, or handling difficult conversations. Emphasize your ability to adapt your communication style to different audiences.

You have to come with your own questions. In any job interview, you (the candidate) is interviewing the company as much as they are interviewing you. To not have any questions, begs a lot of ... well, questions. Did you not research? Are you not a curious person or critical thinker? Are you bored? Do you lack self confidence? I once found out after I got a job that what impressed the team the most was one simple question: Why doesn't anyone here want this role because it seems like such a good one? Everyone had a good answer to the question, which satisfied me. And in turn they were impressed that I had the nerve to ask it.

Currently, interviews can be virtual, in-person, or a combination so you have to dress for both scenarios. Obviously dressing appropriately is important since first impressions count plus it sends a message of respect for the person and company involved in the interview. If it is video, the camera focuses on your waist up so also make sure your background is professional and not a kitchen with dirty dishes or clothes piled on your bed. An in-person interview requires research. What is the culture of the office, formal business, business casual, or just being comfortable, which also means neat, hair combed, and clean fingernails. Be modest when it comes to loud colors or overly stylish evening outfits as the first appearance sends a message.

Expect questions about how you've handled challenging communication situations or conflicts in the workplace. Use the STAR method to provide detailed responses, focusing on the situation, the task at hand, the actions you took, and the results achieved.

When we say be confident, your voice plays an important role in exhibiting confidence. Speak in audible confident voice(not too low or high), pronounce each word clearly, stress on important words, maintain right voice modulation throughout the communication. We advice to use interviewer's name or sir but do not overuse it.

If you are going for a Cabin Crew interview, know that, you are judged from the time you knock the door and request for the permission to enter the interview room. How you enter the room, your walking style, how you stand in front of the interviewer, your body gesture, your dressing, your smile...from head to toe, everything is noticed. Hence, even if you are nervous about the interview, be confident & maintain the smile on your face & eye contact with the interviewer. Have a calm posture and use hand gestures appropriately while answering the questions. Using right tone of the voice & voice modulation will play a positive role. After interview, while moving out from the room, walk confidently & close the door without making noise.
