What are the best practices for building a collaborative innovation ecosystem in a smart city?

Smart city projects start with clear ideas, common long term vision, that everyone agrees on, like a plan for city. This idea helps the government, companies, & regular folks all agree on important goals. People decide on these goals by talking & sharing ideas through meetings, surveys & workshops. The city wants to hear from everyone to make sure it's awesome for all. The shared vision sets goals & shows what success looks like, like having a plan so everyone knows where they're going. Smart cities use technology, but they also use ideas from everyone in city. By working together, the city becomes more fun & better for everyone. It's like building a super city where everyone helps & we all have a good time making our city truly awesome

These engagements help to understand and define community needs, challenges and goals for the future. This will help to guide design, planning, policy development and funding to ensure digital, transportation equity and universal design. Community engagement means less equity gaps and political challenges to technology and associated cost overruns over the life of technology.

In my experience, cities hosting conferences which enable government, science, technology and the public to participate can foster collaboration. I recently attended the Smart Country Convention in Berlin where I had the opportunity to make that collaborative experience.

Share resources like money & skills so everyone feels heard & important. Connect people with technology, learn from other cities & make sure projects benefit everyone.
