What are the best strategies for new recruiters to succeed in their first year?

Seek genuine connections with everyone. Approach each interaction from a place of genuine curiosity and be a sponge seeking mentorship, feedback, and advice from all your colleagues. Once you've done that, learn and execute and work hard to build a brand for yourself. If you consistently show up, put in the work, and give praise to others on your success, guess who your supervisors will think of when promotions come around? The first year is hands down the most difficult. My advise would be, listen to your manager, be willing to take on board criticism and learn your own strengths and weaknesses. It is so true in recruitment, you get out what you put in, if you're willing to work hard you will see the benefits of this. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, but always learn from there! Listen to those who have the experience, be resilient.

Very simple! Spend more time on two things: Research and seek connections. -Research will drive into the exact path of understanding the "requirement". Sometimes, you need better IT understanding if you land onto IT recruiting. Result: The more better undertesting will get you quality of candidates. -Connecting HR people and recruiters will also help you to gain more knowledge and insights about current market trends. You should always stay up-to-date while creating a pool of candidates. Result: Connections are always helpful and you stand between people who shares relevant knowledge which is too essential for beginning stage of recruiting.

As a new recruiter, gain a strong understanding of the positions for which you are recruiting and what skill sets are required to succeed. Curate industry related news daily; speak with employees in every department and ask what characteristics they want to see in junior, mid-level, and senior positions; and research tips on best practices for how to reach those candidates.

Create a pipeline of candidates and connect with the passive candidates through Facebook,LinkedIn or other social media platforms. Through networking, recruiters can reach a broader pool of candidates, increasing the likelihood that they will locate a qualified applicant. Additionally, it enables them to hire individuals that fit the company's ethos and target particular audiences. Hiring managers can weed out applications that aren't appropriate and concentrate on exceptional candidates by focusing on individuals that possess particular abilities, seniority levels, expertise, and experiences.

To do it at best, you need to first develop your curiosity about people, ask questions, show your interest and prepare every interaction you can have on & offline. You also need to build a plan, to define what are the people you want to have in your network (eg. all the people from one industry, all the CTO from companies in the city, etc.). Improving your visibility online, will also allow people to come to you, we always think about networking as a going to people, but if you build visibility online and a solid personal brand, people will follow you & connect with you on linkedIn and it will help you start interaction. Recruiting is all about building relationships, both internally and externally. You need to connect with your hiring managers, colleagues, candidates, and other stakeholders to understand their needs, preferences, and feedback. You also need to communicate clearly, respectfully, and frequently to keep everyone informed and engaged throughout the hiring process. By building rapport and trust with your network, you'll be able to source, attract, and retain the best talent for your organization.

It's a numbers game, but each number counts. Remember that the recipient of your first message is a human being with the same basic needs as you. They are also skeptical of scams, bots, and stalkers. Rookies are tempted to message mass audiences with a generic message believing they will get better response rates. However, veterans understand that messages with a genuine, unique approach to each person will land more favorable responses in the long run. Avoid language like "I noticed your profile on LinkedIn" or "Your background is impressive" because everyone writes that. Try asking if the person wants to build their network and/or discuss what career growth would look like to them. I get "not now" responses which turn into hires later.

In your first year as a recruiter, it's crucial to gain as much experience as possible. Seek permission to attend interviews with more experienced recruiters, take notes, and address your questions afterward. Then, practice incorporating new questions and approaches in your own interviews.

Quality over quantity is the name of the game! The quicker you realise this, the better for everyone. Sending over 10 CV's when 1 or 2 very strong candidate will have the same affect. This is where the learning and being a sponge comes into affect, the more you know about the role the better you can align candidate to it and place them. Making you, the candidate and the client/hiring manager all happy.

I think strong sourcing skills are foundational to success in recruitment, and continuous improvement in this area contributes significantly to your effectiveness as a recruiter. By mastering the sourcing skills, you can present a more qualified candidates and making your process more efficient

We've tried to leverage the latest and greatest in tech and work on both sides of our 360 model. AI being the big talking point now, and the big fear it's going to do our job's for us. I don't think that's the case. I think there's an element to what we do that requires a human touch. At least for now. I do think that those that don't leverage AI will get left behind. It can let you do 10 times as much in half the time and find out more and collate more data. The name of the game is insights and efficiency!

I am over a decade into recruitment and still learning, and totally OK with that! As you're entering this profession, being open to continuous improvement is really the way to be successful because there are always going to be other companies and other recruiters who are doing things differently that you can learn from. Learning, growing, innovating, and having a passion for transforming our industry is where we will truly begin to see radical changes across our entire profession!

With more than 15 years experience I would say mindset is a contributor to success. This is a not an easy space, with a fair amount outside your control and a product that can say no. Your outlook determines how you manage the highs and lows and being to successfully do this early on is key. Never become complacent and keep evolving!

Personally I think it’s important to remember that it’s absolutely fine to make mistakes and it takes time to be a great recruiter. So your first year is the time of trial and error. Soak up any information you are given. Do your own research in whichever ways you can and try what you learn on the phone. You need to create your own method and approach that works for you. This will set you up for success later down the road.

It is really important to be as open to learning as possible, so taking every opportunity to get involved and putting yourself out there. It is really important to listen and if you are able to be in an office environment with other recruiters, then take the opportunity to sit amongst others because you will pick up tips from how others do things. Don't be afraid to ask for help, ask questions and seek advice. We work in an industry focussed on people, so generally people will be willing to help and provide feedback. These days there is so much information on social media, blogs and even YouTube videos. A lot of this is free, so reading, researching and being open to listen to the advice of others is really important. Smiling also helps!

Get on the phone. The majority of your time should be spent speaking to candidates, prospects & clients. Don’t sit on LinkedIn sending InMail after InMail, it may lead to you getting a few deals, but it certainly won’t lead to you becoming a strong consultant. Get on the phone, stay on the phone, get comfortable with doing cold BD.

Grind your backside off. Know that it’s not going to be easy. Focus on building exceptional relationships with your clients, you should aim to have multiple high ticket clients on a basis where you can shoot them a WhatsApp and they’ll get back straight away. Pretending to be hyper-professional won’t win you any awards, be yourself with your clients. Don’t present low quality candidates to your clients out of “I can’t find anyone better”, it will harm you in the long term and brand you as a low value recruiter. Don’t call yourself a “consultant” if you’re not a consultant - say no to your clients, tell them why their budget isn’t enough, tell them why they need to adjust the JD. There’s no value in a yes man!

Acquire a complete understanding of the unique hiring requirements for each position, emphasizing skills and cultural compatibility. Establish strong Network and connections with candidates, hiring managers, and peers for valuable opportunities and insights.
