Having managed a portfolio of culturally diverse (Japan, Korea, UK, etc) and sector diverse (energy, f&b, technology, etc) companies, I do agree planning and agenda setting is essential. Anticipation also is important but tricky and getting a good read on the situation is usually not possible until you're on the ground and face to face with your portfolio company and team.
