Be ready to speak to those goals and how this idea will influence them. Try to explain how it might achieve those goals alongside other initiatives. Even better -- get some solid data to back your idea either in existing metrics or by finding small ways to prove your idea in advance (e.g. if you want the budget for a new report, see how the topic lands on social media first and bring those metrics to the call).

In my experience, drawing in a member of your senior leadership team as a “mentor” on what you’re looking to pitch is a great way to gain valuable insight into your project and raise the likelihood of buy in. Find someone above you in your chain of command that you trust, and draw them in with something like this: “Hey, I have this idea that I’ve been working on that I think could help us with [insert outcome here] - but I know I probably don’t have the whole picture.
