What are the best ways to show continued interest in a position after an interview?

Thank you notes are a thing that I rarely receive and I interview hundreds of candidates every month. Just a simple email thanking me for my time, adding additional points to our conversation or sending me things we talked over in the conversation goes a really long way in my book.

This is one of the most important steps after the interview. It allows you to highlight your gratitude for the opportunity to participate. But it is very important that you include specific points or qualities of the company that attracted you. So that it doesn't look formulaic.

For me, sending a thank you email to the Interviewers/Hiring Managers or in-charge Recruiters is absolutely integral part of interview process, which is a very common courtesy to show your appreciation for their time and attention. To make it clear, if you apply and interview for 1 position and there are so many candidates interviewing too, so making yourself professional is also important. Hiring Managers/Recruiters/Interviewers will highly appreciate your attitude and of course you will be outstanding among other qualified applicants. Otherwise, if you are not qualified, another chances in future will be considered. You should send the thank you email within 24 hours from the interview, be noted that email must be brief and personalized.

Thank you notes are a great way to show interest in a role. I also tell my candidates if they feel there is something pertinent in the interview that they didn't get to mention to utilize the thank you note a a means to share that info. Also don't be afraid to follow up with your recruiter. While they should provide timely updates to you, there are always times or periods where they are waiting on feedback and just don't have an update yet. Overall, your follow up shows you are excited and have continued interest about the role. Last point, when your recruiter sends an update it is nice to respond as it also reflects continued interest. Your recruiter is your cheerleader! lean on them for updates, interview prep, and company insight.

In my opinion, a well thought out thank you note is a mandatory practice after the interview. I personally practiced this since 1985 in London. So here is the magic key: State why you are interested and passionate about working for the company and the position. Now this is where you're honed listening skills will come into play. State those things which the interviewer said to you and things you had both discussed. This list could include values, culture, the challenges the role is offering, the DEI policy of the company, the technology being used, the dynamic work environment, structured career paths, etc). You maybe out of sight but you will be in there mind. GOOD LUCK!

Please ask for 'next steps' if they are not clearly given to you. Rule of thumb, the best person to ask when you are unsure is your recruiter. Maybe you had a few questions that you neglected to ask during the interview, they will be able to help you out (whether they already know the answer or can follow up on your behalf and get feedback along the way).

A good interviewer should set these expectations after the interview BUT this is always a great question to ask as the interview is wrapping up. Follow the time slots in order to respect the company’s process and absolutely follow up to know that you are still interested. If in the case that you are not selected, you can turn this in to a learning opportunity by seeking any sort of feedback that they are willing to disclose. Most companies are not, but the few that are, will help you overcome certain concerns that you might have not otherwise considered.

Follow the instructions in a TIMELY manner. If the hiring manager asks to submit additional documents, try to submit them as soon as possible, at the latest within 48 hours. This will show interest in the role and a sense of urgency.

Follow the instructions provided by the interviewer. Allow the process to take place in it's due course. However, mention your readiness to provide any additional information or clarification on your qualifications if needed. This shows your commitment to a transparent and collaborative hiring process.

If you see the HMs email on the invite, avoid contacting them if the HM/Recruiter has already established next steps. If they have not, clarify that towards the end of your interview.

Staying in touch after interview is pretty good, but do not be mistaken between follow-up and stalk. After sending thank you email to Recruiters/Interviewers you may want to follow up to know the result, but please be careful as overdo it or act as if you are impatient will be considered to be unprofessional. If you have not heard back from the Interviewers with a week or so, resend a follow-up email to inquire about the result, this email should be short, polite, and focus on the value you can bring to the position. Besides, you can also use some channels like phone, Linkedin (other personal SNS accounts are not recommended) to stay in touch and keep an eye on any updates related to the result.

Maintain balance. Sending too many messages can come across as intrusive. And you don’t need to create such an opinion about you.

It is really important to build a good rapport with the hiring team during the interview process. Some of the best ways to stay connected in a positive way --- - Say "Thank you" over a call and let the Recruiters know what have helped you from them to get prepared for the interview. Share what went good, any improvement areas on interview process, it can am open feedback for them. - Try to check on the timeline for the feedback/ closing on the interview loop. Let them know if you have any plans for travel/ unavailability/ any offers in process which will help them to fast track and keep informed. - Wait for the timeline, until then try to understand any more information about the company, business or team.

Get in touch with the hiring team. If you're not already connected on LinkedIn, consider connecting with the interviewers and company representatives after the interview. This can help you stay updated on the company's news and showcase your continued interest.

Initiative and persistence are great traits to have as an employee or a candidate for a role, as long as you consider a few details. Timeline is important if the recruiter says it could take several weeks, and you follow up daily; that can seem like you are not listening. Method of contact: I regularly give out my contact information, email, mobile or others to candidates if they need me for anything. However, using all these at once can be overwhelming and send the wrong message to employers or recruiters.

While you are waiting for a reply. It's good for you to know that your Recruiter/TAM will also be pressing the interviewer/s: • to know what their post-interview thoughts were • to gauge what the next steps look like • to get a response back to you as soon as possible

To be as ready as possible: - Ask the interviewer what the upcoming steps are, how they should be carried out, and if there is anything you have to get ready beforehand. - Take some time to look into the people who will interview you - it'll make it seem a bit less intimidating when you're speaking to them. - Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Don't give up if your initial job interview fails - the job market is complex and constantly shifting. Be ready for the next one. - Don't forget to take a breather, looking for a job can be mentally and physically exhausting. Don't let it tear you down :)

When it comes to interviewing, I find the old saying hope for the best but plan for the worst to be accurate. Sometimes we may feel like we crushed an interview but can still be rejected; sometimes you apply for a job you are unsure about, and the offer comes right away. As long as you continue to push yourself to grow from the process you will end up finding the dream job. As a recruiter, it is our job to prepare candidates for any scenario and help them develop when we can.

Remaining flexible and prepared is crucial during the waiting period post-interview. Anticipate various outcomes like additional interviews, tests, or reference checks. Stay ready to respond professionally to job offers, rejections, or hold requests. Keep job search active until you secure a written offer as timelines vary. Be prepared for different scenarios, maintaining readiness for both positive and negative outcomes.

A great recruiter will always tell you what's going on, especially if there's a surprise. Flexibility is an important trait in life - roll with the punches. If there's another interview or rejection, deal with it. Remember that only 1 person can be hired per job and there are hundreds of candidates.

I would say differently, in case of refusal, it is not necessary to remain positive. It is important to be sincere in expressing your feelings and willing to learn from experience. Can you ask for clarification of the reasons why you received a refusal? Ask for direction to help you try again next time. And even despite the refusal, I know many cases when the candidate’s partiality towards the refusal changed the employer’s decision at the last moment!

The best way to show continued interest in a role & company is to connect with all the interviewers on LI, be flexible and responsive, send a thank you email, and stay positive & professional throughout the process. It is also important to do your research and ask insightful & thoughtful questions about the company and role every time you are given the opportunity. Do not bombard a hiring manager with a list of questions via email, wait for the opportunity to address questions via a video, in person, or phone meeting to not lose the intent or tone by sending an email only... it then becomes homework rather than a conversation.

One thing that always helps is pro-activeness during the entire process. Some tips that you should follow - 1. ALWAYS ack emails. Interview emails, availability emails, follow-on document emails, random check-ins from a recruiter. Most of the candidates don't, it's your time to shine. 2. Be pro-active to ask for interview feedback - Don't appear for an interview and forget about it until the recruiter reaches out to you. 3. Always explain your thoughts/inclinations in joining a company. It can be some apprehension, dilemma or a question - this helps recruiters to help you navigate through it and respect you as a candidate for sharing the thoughts honestly.

Without question, showing enthusiasm when you receive an offer is easier than receiving a rejection. However, one of the best ways to improve is by being told no but asking what we can do better. Professionalism and respect on both sides of the interview process needs to be mandatory; communication, honesty, and respect is the way forward.

Never burn a bridge! If you are rejected for a position, it may just have not been the right fit. That doesn't mean the company wasn't a right fit. Keep doors open and keep in touch with your recruiter for future openings because you never know when the perfect role might become available.

A thank you is always the best way to show your interest, but there are a couple of ways to devalue the opportunity. First off, if you don’t have your individual interviewers’ email addresses, please keep in mind that the recruiter/coordinator probably cannot give them to you - usually divulging contact info is counter to security protocols. Instead, see if there in a naming convention (firstname.lastname@company.com). If not, send your thank you with a LinkedIn invitation. The biggest issue I usually see is trying to use a thank you to “explain” or correct a missed question or oversell yourself.

Interview processes can take some time and here's a single way to keep the momentum going After the initial interview with the recruiter, send a thank you note with the phrase 'looking forward to next steps' this implies that you are available for next rounds. From this point on, it's not necessary to send thank you notes after every interview, you are live in the process, and should anything change, the recruiter will reach out to update you. Send a final thank you after the last round, implying again that you are 'eager to know any additional next steps or it there are questions to reach out' Candidates should be aware of when to send these notes as timing is important in the process as well.

Many candidates don't know appropriate follow up times. Ask in the interview when decisions on next steps will be made. Use this date as an indicator of when to follow up if you haven't heard anything. "It was great having an opportunity to discuss xxxx with you in my interview. You indicated that decisions on next steps would be made by xxxx. As I've not heard anything I wanted to see if I am still in consideration for the role, or if I should be focusing my efforts on other opportunities? I understand you may be very busy, so I'll follow up again in a week if I don't hear from you." You're following up respectfully and providing them with a reasonable timeline to respond before you'll follow up again.

Always aim to align your core strengths with your next move. While it's crucial to send a thank-you email within 24 hours and extend a connection request on LinkedIn, consider exploring unconventional avenues to convey your ongoing interest. This can be achieved by actively participating in industry-specific networking events or conferences.
