Many times non profit tries to mimic the ways and patterns of for profit models to show more efficiency in certain periods of time. In that period of time, maybe non profit will be able to show the desired result but in the long run, it will not be as desired. It mostly happened because of the funder agency which is mostly a CSR wing of a for profit organization demand.Non profits should understand that the agendas that they are working is complex and it requires constant time , effort and strategy and they should negotiate it with their funders.

Lessons for Social Impact: Resourceful Thinking: Learning how to do more with less is an essential skill that the nonprofit model can teach. Data-Driven Impact: Nonprofits are increasingly relying on metrics and evaluations to prove their impact, a practice that can be adopted widely for data-driven decision-making. The nonprofit model is essential for driving social change, but it often encounters challenges. These include financial sustainability and scalability. Organizations typically rely on donations and grants, which can lead to a focus on short-term projects and limit long-term impact. This model also faces the pitfalls of the "Non-Profit Industrial Complex." In this context, the pressure to secure funding can overshadow the core mission. In response, entities like Audiopedia Foundation are innovating beyond these constraints. They are seeking to expand impact through collaborative and sustainable approaches, ensuring that efforts are not siloed but integrated into a broader, enduring strategy.

When I co-founded my company, the question often posed was: 'Do you want to be successful or do you want to change the world?' Our answer was unequivocal: we want both. Inspired by "The Power of Unreasonable People," we discovered social entrepreneurship. Our mission was to connect multinational corporations with non-profits to secure funding for impactful projects, leading us to create a Hybrid Social Enterprise - a company with an NGO. This choice allowed us to maintain fiscal incentives for corporate donations while raising capital for a tech-driven B2B marketplace. As a result, we've positively impacted over 70,000 lives in Mexico, establishing a profitable business that pioneers transparent and traceable giving in LATAM.

Following are the key learnings from social impact mod- - Adapt solution to local needs. - Foster local leadership and ownership. - iterate and adjust strategies for best fitment. - monitor and evaluate effectiveness for impact measurement. - document and share best practices for replication and scale up.

This model demands a careful balance of social and financial objectives. It's about being as precise as a surgeon when evaluating whether a business aligns with the impact you aim to achieve. What works well is pursuing a business idea that seamlessly integrates the impact into the process. From personal experience, what is difficult to work well is the attempt to create an impact after the business occurs. It's like running an NGO and business at the same time and eventually puts a strain on the potential of both aspects.

Social enterprise is sometimes mistakenly seen as the easier way to support impact-- most especially given its lack of reliance on philanthropic funding engines. However I believe in practice that it's more complex than a more "traditional" nonprofit model as it requires balancing social outcomes with the desire to generate profit. Many speak to this as a focus on a triple bottom line. In my opinion, strong social enterprises deeply understand the trade-offs which allows them to confidently navigate while still maintaining their focus on their mission and impact.

This model highlights that alone be it policy, government entity or any organisation can tackle problems of the society. The key highlight of this model is that partnership, collaboration, and collective effort is required to achieve a common goal.

Sounds like a shared value model, where all boats rise in high tide. Having multiple stakeholders with differing skills and resources addressing a given problem will equate to a much more sustainable solution.

Having a linchpin to manage interests during large collaborations can save time, money, and stress. There will be inevitable conflicts and communication challenges, but being able to find the good in these situations is invaluable.

I would argue this is more of an approach than a model. Multiple actors from different sectors working together is just the nature of good social impact work. Try to raise the bar and start with collective impact as the base - and how can you really advance from there?

The term, systems change, is now being used loosely or rather firmly in a depoliticised way. Often the change is triggered through capacitating rights holders or through sensitising duty bearers. Attitude shift and creating awareness are seen as THE project activity. Slowly, it was realised that many problems are systemic and would require surgery! The challenge is that systemic shift would require movement based approach- especially the shift is against a mainstream ideology. In other words, system change is often an ideological shift, deeply political; it changes the way we look at society or economy!

Implementing Microinsurance programs in vulnerable communities requires not only the right insurer (e.g. Blue Marble), but a genuine vision and mission to change the system on a macro-level. Focusing on underserved communities creates profit opportunities while increasing financial accessibility that will have positive ripple effects throughout the economy.

The systems change model is a transformative approach to social systems change model tackles social and environmental issues by addressing root causes and altering mindsets, behaviors, and policies. Collaborative governance, involving diverse stakeholders, enhances sustainability. Continuous learning and adaptation are key, utilizing feedback loops to adjust strategies and remain effective over time. For instance, a community-driven initiative advocating for sustainable agriculture demonstrates how collaborative efforts can reshape systems for lasting impact. Despite challenges like defining systems and engaging stakeholders, overcoming these obstacles is vital for enduring positive change.

Systems change is indeed transformative, but learning from diverse social impact models reveals critical insights. For instance, Rwanda’s post-genocide rebuilding and South Korea’s economic miracle highlight the need for bold experimentation and adaptable policies. Trust-based philanthropy, as seen in Botswana, empowers local innovation and sustainability. However, balancing bold actions with ethical considerations is vital. Engaging stakeholders, as demonstrated by Mauritius’ diversification, ensures inclusive growth. While systems change emphasizes understanding complexity + identifying leverage points, practical models show that flexibility, risk-taking, & learning from failures are equally crucial for impactful and sustainable outcomes.

Social Impact Bonds (SIB) represent a promising tool for social enterprises and other organizations seeking to catalyze change. SIB is typically structured around a social challenge or goal, such as reducing homelessness, improving educational outcomes (my focus) or enhancing public health. Private investors provide the upfront capital needed to finance a project aimed at addressing the issue that will be delivered by a social enterprise or nonprofit organization. By aligning interests around social outcomes and leveraging private investment for public good, SIBs can play a crucial role in addressing and unlocking solutions for many SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) challenges.

Design thinking is especially important when working with international communities, having experience of how stakeholders think and are likely to engage can significantly impact implementations. It's one thing to research and study a target market, but to have first-hand experience of the population proves invaluable in design.

Design Thinking’s focus on empathy, collaboration, and iterative problem-solving makes it a powerful tool for creating meaningful and sustainable social impact. It ensures that solutions are deeply rooted in the needs and realities of the people they aim to serve, leading to more effective and enduring outcomes.

The use of the design thinking model to improve the customer experience will always have great benefits that can be understood on its own; however, it is important not to lose sight of the fact that it can generate some conflict between those responsible for the areas whose raison d'être is to ensure that the results are as planned and the groups dedicated to the generation of creative tests that may or may not generate good results.

This is more of an approach to social impact rather than a model or paradigm itself. Design thinking along with universal design and inclusive design are all approaches to help you better understand your audience or target population and to develop sustainable solutions.

In my experience , I have seen that in the development sector people delay to adopt the technological development and changes in society. It impacts their personal growth as well as it reduces the impact the development of new technology. As a development practitioner, we should be quick in adopting social and technological changes and use it for positive social impacts.
