Failure is an integral part of life as a startup founder. We must learn from failures and then quickly move on. A failure is just a lesson learned, nothing to be worried or ashamed about. Without failures there are no true successes. Just keep plugging away ;))

I think this point is crucial. I saw many pivots that have been done based on hypothesis - not based on real problems. Here you have to be particularly careful to avoid errors of perception, which our brain naturally has - this is also known as biases. We humans are generally quite good at interpreting situations rather than acting on the basis of actual statements and facts. The market is apparently difficult because everyone says so? The customer hesitated and didn't say yes straight away? Yes of course, it all fits together. Let's do a pivot. It's all too easy for founders to fall into this trap of interpreting situations instead of saying: We don't have enough data yet, we don't know if our assumptions are correct.

If you are not stepping out of your comfort zone, you are not growing. Because when you step out of your comfort zone and expose yourself to new things, you need to learn new things, and this will help you grow. A child does not give up after trying to walk ones, it keeps trying until it can walk. It keeps trying new ways, it will fall and cry and hurt itself, but as long as it learns from the failure, it will learn and get better with every step.

It seems such a cliché, but at very high pressures and temperatures, the carbon atoms are squeezed so much that they start touching more atoms. Feedback is a perspective from a distant horizon. The mentor or the expert can see the issue from a differerent perspective and you can have a totally differnt angle to understand and respond to thinng. In my opinon, you should refer to a mentor or expert on periodic basis even in your prosperous era that will help you avoid the bumpy road.

We are taught that we must be persistent, but no one teaches us when to give up. I spent 8 years in a business with a bad partner, 2 bad partners if you count the Brazilian government. I gained a lot of experience but at a high cost. Always analyze your situation carefully, don't work too much as you may run out of time to think.

A lot of factors can contribute to failure. Be sure to take the time to understand those which are within your control and those which are beyond it. People tend to want to shift blame for failure to uncontrollable factors but many such "causes" are a result of them not recognizing their lack of understanding of the market, inevitable shifts in market over time or their dependence on what they know rather than respecting what they don't and seeking help, even simple insight from a Mentor. Great leaders surround themselves with people who fill their gaps in knowledge and challenge their perspectives. Not every question about a decision or direction is an insult. Many are genuine pursuits of knowledge or ideas worthy of consideration.
