What do you do if your decision-making abilities as an executive need enhancement?

Enhancing decision-making as an executive starts with understanding your style: analytical, intuitive, collaborative, or decisive. Each has benefits and drawbacks. Overly analytical executives risk analysis paralysis; intuitive ones may overlook crucial data. Excessively collaborative leaders could dilute their authority, while decisiveness might lead to ignoring valuable feedback. Recognizing your style helps adapt your approach for better outcomes, avoiding pitfalls like delayed decisions or overlooked information, thereby improving leadership effectiveness.

To enhance our decision making skills, we must involve ourselves to more strategic situations. We must seek diversified feedbacks so that our analytical skill is challenged always. However I would like to be coached by an expert to strengthen my decision making approach.

Every skill at every level needs enhancement. One should be very much open to feedback, willing to learn and put in extra efforts to be in the top tier.

Seeking diverse perspectives and feedback is vital for enhancing decision-making abilities. It broadens your understanding, challenges assumptions, and unveils new opportunities and risks. While it's important to consider various inputs, it doesn't necessitate agreement with all. Exercising critical thinking to filter feedback based on relevance and validity is key. Moreover, being aware of biases like confirmation bias, anchoring, overconfidence, and groupthink is crucial. These biases can skew decision-making, leading to suboptimal outcomes. Participating in Masterminds has helped me a lot on this point. With group brainstorming sessions we have the opportunity to see how others would or have already solved similar issues and we benefit from their experience and external perspectives.
