When you start a position with a mentor a set of rules or guidance needs to be established by the mentor and mentee. 1. What is the mentee looking to receive in the mentorship? 2. When will both of you have time to discuss your work constructive feedback and guidance. Set a scheduled time weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or quarterly. Thus will depend on what your expecting to receive in the mentorship. 3. Are there specific dated goals or deadlines your looking to accomplish? Mentors are a great resource, but partner's, contractors, sub-contractors, customers can give feedback giving you guidance both positive and constructive feedback. Open communication and willing to hear areas of success and areas that could use improvement.

Looking for a new position, new clients, how to resolve conflict in your industry, best practices that work better than others, how to find a mentor, how to be a good mentor and just a lifeline is within your network. You build your brand "who you are" and network in that area. Look for those who are successful, breaking into industry areas, leaders and seek out advice and find Mastermind circles(s) to keep growing. Your network should always be growing so you have a large pool of contacts.At some point there will be those looking up to you.

Continue your learning journey and embrace continuous evolution. Seize every opportunity to expand your mind. Remember, wisdom and knowledge accumulate gradually. Dedicate yourself fully to becoming the leader you aspire to be by consistently striving for growth and development.

Never stop learning and never stop evolving. Cramp your cranium at every chance you get. Wisdom and knowledge compounds over time. Do everything in your power to grow into the leader that you desire to be.

Learning from other sources: Never stop looking for industry specific sources: white papers, lessons learned, new field type material, design or management styles. Every field is changing at light speed. They say by the time you graduate with a college degree all the information or most of it is already outdated. As you go to school the new information is being done simultaneously. Be willing to ve open to new ideas 💡, opportinites and some almost impossible new ways to do the work. Listen to industry podcasts, get audible books 📚 to listen to driving to and from work. Keep learning and absorbing information it will open doors and opportunity you would think were never possible.

To meet several of this articles numbered points, find a mentor. In fact, several if possible. But as mentioned, everyone's busy. If you've written down your goals, as discussed in number one, and you're networking like number four, you have an idea of who you're looking for as informal mentors, and you can reach out to them on LinkedIn or in real life. Learn through conversations, pointed ones. "What did you do to overcome this challenge?", "Why did that book have that impact do you believe?", "What are three things you wish you knew when you started your career?". The conversations can be brief, and when collectively weaved together, provide you insight. I have had dozens of formal mentors, and near countless informal mentors.
