All software designs require adaptability. The tricky part is trying to discover which parts can be safely adapted as issues come up, and which require foresight and planning. I like to use the following heuristics. 1. What will cause current customers to leave, or stop payment if it breaks? How can I prevent that thing from breaking during a shift in scale or focus? 2. What will become too expensive to change as we grow? Normally this is related to customer data. Plan enough time to make those changes slowly, or to afford duplication. 3. Can we keep the software in an always deployable state, and find ways to deploy unfinished features safely? This is critical for remaining adaptable.

I would start simple without too many abstractions. as requirements come in, adapt the design to cope with them but extrapolate. imagine each new requirement is a first in a long list of requirements in the same direction
