When I've had situations where top talent started to leave the business, my first step has been to put myself out there and ASK why they were leaving, then LISTEN without getting defensive. I would also increase the number of "Stay Interviews" my team conducted. You'd be surprised what active team members will tell you. Then you have to take their feedback and turn it into action. Even after that, if the person is wanting a change, and they have been in the team for more than 2 years, than releasing them would not be a bad idea, with an agreement that they would do the transitions fully well.

Satisfaction has a direct relationship with expectation.
