If you are going to go as far as contacting HR, ask more specific like 'Do leaders in your company typically wear suits? Do they wear blazers? Do they wear jeans? (you get the idea)'. This information will give you much more concrete information to base your dressing decision on.

I also disagree with neutral dress-code. Both organisational and national culture should be considered to ensure the cultural normal and expectations are met, showing professionalism as well as good preparation for the interview. Personal branding and authenticity are still important, hence alignment with the cultural values and your unique style should be the goal.

Here, I disagree. As mentioned above, do your research about the organization plus the industry so that you know how the company 'looks'. This comprehensive understanding allows you to mentally prepare and maintain confidence, especially if you choose to dress out of the norm. If your personal style is important to you and it clashes with the interviewers' expectations, it opens a dialogue for consideration. If they reject you solely due to that, it was probably a cultural mismatch altogether, sparing you from a potentially ill-fitting job.

Neutrals are safe, conservative and understated but it is a complete myth that wearing colour makes you look unprofessional or is distracting. In fact, wearing colours that compliment your natural colouring can actually enhance your visual message, you appearance and help you make a memorable first impression. The colours you wear should be based on what looks best on you, your preferences and your style. My advice: Wear a colour scheme that aligns with your style. If you like a more subtle and understated appearance, wear all neutral. But if you have a vibrant and creative personality, don't be afraid to wear a blouse in your best colour. Your best bet is to embody who you are through your clothes including the colours you wear.

I wrote a LinkedIn newsletter article all about this but the key places to look for good fit are: - Sleeve length - Neckline height (no less than 2" above the cleavage) - Jacket and top hem (not too long) - Waistline (able to fit 2 fingers) - Pant/skirt/dress length Other indications that a garment doesn't fit right: - Pulling or gaping - Puckering - Bunching - Sagging The goal is for your clothes to lay smoothly across the body and for you to be able to move freely in your clothes.

Accessories are like the spice added to an outfit but which accessories to wear really depends on the overall outfit and formality. A rule of thumb is that the smaller and more refined a piece of jewellery is, the more formal it is. Larger pieces and pieces with lower refinement are less formal. The key is to coordinate your accessories with your overall outfit so create a cohesive style story from head to toe.

Coco Chanel once said: Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman. First of all of course is that it applies to anyone. Second, you must interpret the word "impeccably", which in my mind does not mean to dress "well" but to blend with your surrounding. In other words, adapt to the organization, if you wish (or need) to fit. But if the organization thrives on diversity, be yourself. At the end of the day it pays.

I'd like to add here a topic about comfort for a candidate. There is a lot of stress in the interview itself. So increasing the stress with wearing new things... So a bit of good advice would be to stick to the things you know. Event if they're not "the best".
