I've been full stack and in this day and age there is just to much stuff to be an expert in. I found with all the developers I've worked with they have a preference they can still do both but get more enjoyment from one or the other. Mine is frontend I find this alot more fun so chose to go down that road. You will still do aspects of backend but just less and vice versa. I think going in learning both has huge advantages you understand both sides of things then are in a position to take which ever road you choose. But if you do branch try and work closely with your backend or frontend equivalent to keep your knowledge up simply for the pleasure of learning something new.
