A health and safety program should include determining if chemical or biological hazards are present; if physical hazards (electrical conduits, suspended loads, confined spaces, and traffic) can be mitigated or avoided entirely; and that everyone is in good physical condition to perform the work. It may entail clearing boreholes down to the depth of typical utilities, studying available plans for subsurface hazards, and making personal protective equipment available and required.

After collecting the field data and samples, you need to analyze and interpret them to evaluate the nature, extent, and magnitude of the contamination, and to assess the risks and impacts on the receptors.
