What are the most effective ways to encourage user engagement and participation in your online community?

What’s really popping right now is personal stories and real life images of you in action. I do a combo of those candid moments in action - with my kids or dog, or speaking at an event - and also do graphics, carousels and videos. I try not to go over 200 words in the copy and always lead with something polarizing that draws attention in the first 2 lines of copy.

This is why certain tricks of social media do not work, it is simply depending on your audience! The more you understand them, the better you can curate your content to them. Personal stories are a big thing right now thanks to TikTok, which offer a glimpse into the creator's life or content creation process, think YouTube vlogs but shorter. You need to create content that can be applicable, stories people could save to learn from in the future, or an idea\story that is so relatable people will begin sharing it to their feed and with others.

Love using polls on LinkedIn to get a feel on a topic and then I can actually see who voted and follow up. We also have Bi-weekly calls with our famiLEE and ask them questions to hear what’s going in their lives and businesses. And through email, I conduct a yearly survey to gauge where my audience is at.

Consider offering incentives such as badges, rewards, or discounts to users who participate. This can encourage them to stay engaged and active as you continue to release new content.

Consistency, consistency, consistency. That’s all I have to say. Keep showing up. Keep sending messages. Keep saying hello and following up. Appreciate people and it’s amazing what you can create.

Making it a success requires a strong sense of belonging among your members. Belonging is when people feel a part of something bigger than themselves. To have 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺, you must provide an experience that creates these feelings. Otherwise, you'll have just 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦.

Test and learn is the name of the game. And when something does perform well, pay attention. Repurpose it and don’t reinvent the wheel. People aren’t that complicated. Quality over quantity so pay attention to what’s working and what’s not.
