BER (Bit Error Rate) - systems have the capability of operating effectively at different signal levels and system receivers can operate at -130 or -67, so it is all about how many accurate bits you can get from Tx to Rx AND back to the original Tx. TRP is only measured at the transmit antenna. One thing to consider on a communications link is the distant end reciever. Effective Isotropic Radiated Power is a measurement of the power necessary to provide the same source signal level as the distant end.

These are some tips that help out VSWR as well. Either the Freuqnecy, equipment, or antenna need alteration. Environmental affects are also a consideration. Power lines and generators can cause noise affecting some radio frequency emissions.

Voltage Standing Wave Ratio or VSWR is another good way to assess antenna performance. It does assess everything from the Radio to the antenna, but gives a good indication whether an antenna is effective for the intended frequency. A perfect ratio is 1:1 and usually is hard to achieve.
