From an audiological pov knowing the case history, age, and assessment protocols, related healthcare professionals can make the correct recommendations for ENT referrals or instrumental evaluations. From an SLT pov, one can narrow down informal/formal assessments to be used based on these skills.

One thing i have found to be very helpful as an ASLT is customising resources and sessions to each patient’s interests and individual needs. I have seen some amazing progress because of this!

I do believe clarity of thinking plays a key role in effective communication at workplaces. In order for healthcare professionals to proactively succeed in rendering services to patients and collaborate efficiently with their team, there needs to be a clear dialog of the steps, processes or strategies that are required or needed in place. For instance, a patient urgently requires medication administration, but is not fully covered, at that point, a decision would have to be made on the next right step to take by the Pharmacy supervisor and related health insurance staff. At this bridge, effective communication and collaboration would need to be in place for a proper and efficient management of the patient's road to full recovery.

In my experience, the ability to listen in a non judgemental way and welcome feedback of all kinds goes a long way. Also to not take feedback/critique personally rather be able to differentiate between what you want to listen to and what you want to ignore helps set firm yet flexible boundaries.

This is an important skill which many lack! In therapy we are receiving constant feedback in real time and need to able to assess immediately how reliable the stimuli we are presenting are.

From experience, making a decision in healthcare sector, has a number of factors involved. Timing is one key factor involved in decision making. One minute can make a whole difference to a patient or in saving a life. Decision making skills is majorly important for healthcare professionals. For example, a Lab scientist may have limited resources in carrying out tests for patients, and may have to prioritize and decide which test to carryout, according to the urgency or severity of the cases presented at that particular time. The ability to make to select the best option at that point would be dependent on decision making skills.

I really don't think you can beat 'learning on the job' being taught by efficient, competent experienced mentors at first by watching what they do - then by assisting jointly, then by being supervised and finally by doing it on your own. The golden thread is the approach, the repetition and then the practical application and understanding with the paperwork side catching up and being reviewed regularly.

Medical professionals accurately identify known conditions and provide pharmaceutical and surgical interventions. That is fantastic if you have a broken leg or TB. However there is a massive and growing incidence of avoidable, expensive, "grey-area" chronic conditions that are largely avoidable and can be addressed without medication or surgery. Poor nutrition, poor hydration/ water quality, poor sleep, poor stress management, poor family ties, poor exercise regime, poor sunlight exposure, poor air quality etc. All can be improved with simple cost-free medical advice.
