Performance: even though you may see differences between OS subsystems, 3D engines, music apps, databases, network components, etc, they all have a common ground: run as fast as possible. The web apps have the advantage that you can add tons of hardware to improve performance (usually). The two domains are also similar in terms of usability imho. I don't think there's any usability issue that occurs only on web apps or only on traditional software. This is due to the fact that usability is exclusively a human-centric concern, nothing related to the distributed architecture of the web apps.

It's been my personal observation that most companies struggle with team cohesion, the processes are blown into smithereens, and there is little collaboration compared to traditional IT env. On the other hand, both traditional and web apps offer a significant path to collaboration outside work, which is the open source community. In today's world, few companies invest in educating their staff, so engineers usually have to learn on the go, hence there's a lot of OSS copy-paste.
