Embrace Failure! No don't, I rather wish not to see failure. But the question is what are we doing to mitigate failures? In corporate we are working on something called mistake proofing through lean Six Sigma but can we apply that in our day to day life as well? Ideally it may be difficult but there are few things which can be done to reduce the impact of failure. 1) Reiterate and explore so that you fail fast before you fail after going into details. (Use Design Thinking) 2) Adopt, Absorb & be Smart (keep close watch on global transition) 3) Learn from others failure so that we don't repeat those same steps 4) Seek for a mentor/Coach/Guide for professional growth 5) Build relevant and professional network These steps have helped me.

Setbacks are normal and should not be perceived as failures, but as opportunities to learn and grow. Succes comes from repeting and repeting the good things in order to become better and better.

I have encountered setbacks in various aspects of my life - as a student, a professional, and a parent. Looking back, I realize that setbacks are a natural part of growth and development. Through my work, I have witnessed many clients facing challenges and setbacks, especially during the Covid pandemic. What I have learned is that it's crucial to respond to setbacks in the right way.I've observed that people tend to grow and become stronger after experiencing setbacks, particularly when they respond to those with the right mindset.

The only way skills and success can be achieved is with persistence. One should take calculated risks and stepping out of their comfort zone, else you limit your potential for growth and innovation. Connect with mentors or peers who have experienced similar setbacks and successfully navigated them. Sharing stories and strategies can provide valuable insights and encouragement.

I suggest to my clients a more holistic approach to charting the situation and reframing it, SMART being often too short-term focused and limited in scope. Alternative methods that pave the road for detailed goal-setting include, e.g., MindMapping (for a 360-degree vision), Appreciative Inquiry (to focus on strengths and positive potential), and a variation of Balanced Scorecard (for a more structured approach). Also, rewriting a career narrative is an effective tool for reassessing goals.

For decades, seeing an outside professional for help was met with stares and suspicion. Worse, some workers were faced with a probationary period and basically put on notice that if they show unsatisfactory behaviour, they will subsequently lose their job. Thankfully, the tides -- and perceptions -- have turned 180 degrees. Today, seeking help or support is recognised as a sign of authentic leadership. Some companies even elevate senior leader candidates who have an outside professional in their corner. This self-care approach has truly evolved from negative and judgmental whispers to a positive succession differentiator.

Yes having a mentor for weeks or months or a coach for shorter periods is an excellent way to avoid many setbacks and to achieve goals quicker, with less pain and disappointments. The mentor/coach is a great catalyst for self-realisation.

Setbacks are an opportunity for growth and development. While learning something new we often want to know it all or already be perfect. Yet, often making mistakes, experiencing setbacks can give us clues as to where to grow next. Rather than shying away from a bad experience or ignoring areas that you are not yet proficient. With a client embrace the setback as an area for development. Find out a few things. How are they relating to the experience? What fears, worries, concerns are coming up? How may they relate to the setback such that they would be open to learning and support?

In the first instance, try to understand why and how what is going on is a setback. When that has been established, a careful look should be taken to see how the setback came up in the first instance. After that, actionable steps should be taken to move forward with strategy, introspection and self-love amongst others. When properly handled, a setback can be a solid foundation for a well-planned comeback in ones career.
