When there is combination of automation and human labour on production line, it is best to have interlocks, feedback systems on each station to track quality issues, defects, errors across workstations and ensure that the defective WIP is seperated as early as possible on the production line. Introducing poke yokes, pick to light bins and digital instruction screens would help to reduce wrong part assembly, orientation errors in the manual processes. In automation setups, use of sensors and vision inspection cameras with proper feasibility study and validation can make the automated inspection robust and help to keep quality in check.

To ensure quality, systems to be laid down for regular quality checks for the output from an automated process and a manual process. Training of workforce is important to ensure quality products on the other hand frequent check/maintenance/calibration will be required for automated process. Automated process need to be equipped with defects detection system to avoid rework at later stages. Analyse frequent defects from the automated and manual process to find out if a specific parameter causes defects
