Nachfolgend deshalb nochmal eine kurze Erklärung für alle Nicht-Insider. Least Privilege bedeutet, dass Benutzer nur die minimalen Berechtigungen erhalten sollten, die für die AUSFÜHRUNG IHRER AUFGABEN erforderlich sind❗ Dieses Prinzip hilft zum einen, das Risiko von Sicherheitsverletzungen zu minimieren und die Einhaltung von Sicherheitsstandards zu verbessern, zum anderen, im besonderen auch einen potenziell erfolgreichen Angriff auf diesen spezifischen User Account einzuschränken (Sehr entscheidend❗) Bei Fragen stehe ich natürlich gerne zur Verfügung.

The identity strategy of the organisation will depend on number of factors such as industry in which organisation is operating, geographical spread, organisation vision towords security, the technology supporting the infra of organisation, regulatory factors etc. Basis the above mentioned factors, organisation should pick identity strategy such as ensuring least privilege access and implement the same using various techniques such as Role based access control(RBAC), Mandatory Access Control (MAC) or Descriotonary Access control (DAC). The organisation should deliberate upon the security goals to be achieved and how the same will compliment the business strategy and then decide on the IAM strategy rather then just checking the box.

My identity strategy to keep organizations data secure would be to establish and define clear policies and procedures, implement strong authentication like multi-factor authentication, employ role-based access control, use a centralized identity management system, and adopt single-sign-on solutions. Regularly audit user accounts, encrypt data in transit and at rest, monitor user activities, and provide ongoing security training for employees. Have an incident response plan in place, ensure compliance with regulations, and continuously improve the strategy based on emerging threats and organizational changes.

The first and most important step here js to identify your brand’s vision and core values and objectives. This forms the foundation of your corporate identity and guides all subsequent decisions. Understand your target audience in depth; their needs, preferences, and behaviors. Your corporate identity should resonate with them.

When selecting an identity solution, prioritize security features, seamless integration with existing systems, user-friendly interfaces, scalability, and compliance with industry regulations. Research and choose reputable vendors with a proven track record. Assess the total cost of ownership, including implementation and maintenance expenses, to ensure alignment with your budget. This comprehensive approach will help you make an informed decision that enhances both security and operational efficiency.

As of today, text passwords/PINs are the most reliable identity authentication solution. Some security industries propose biometrics as a solution. However, biometrics authentication is probabilistic and unreliable. Biometrics can lower security. I propose graphical passwords as more robust and secure authentication solutions. Graphical passwords are easy to remember or hard to forget and hard to crack/hack.

Enforce complex passwords with a minimum length and mandate multi-factor authentication for all sensitive access. Grant users only the minimum access permissions required for their job roles and automate user creation and deletion based on employment status. Require encryption for all devices accessing company data and educate users on cybersecurity best practices. Have a documented plan for identifying, containing, and responding to data breaches or security incidents, and conduct regular audits of user accounts, access controls, and system configurations. Monitor system logs for suspicious activity and maintain regular backups of your data with a recovery plan in place.

Implementing an IAM solution goes beyond selecting the right software. It requires comprehensive policies and procedures to guide user management, access control, incident response, and compliance. These policies should be communicated effectively to users, ensuring consistent adherence and safeguarding the organization's digital assets.

Establishing policies and procedures for verifying the identity of individuals before granting them access to systems is crucial. This may include document verification, biometric checks, or multi-factor authentication methods.

Address shortcomings such as outdated accounts, unauthorized access, weak credentials, and non-compliant behavior promptly to maintain a robust identity management system.

But... How do you make people care? Identity management, or governance, involves the continuous maintenance required to keep the system operational and functioning within expected parameters. What does this entail? It means maintaining the precise number and types of identities needed for the users and roles that require them — no more, no less. Suppose you have the necessary people, processes, and technologies to achieve this. So. How do you make people care? I typically begin with a straightforward question: 'How many systems or data sets do you currently have access to that you realistically shouldn't?

Attach a cost of maintenance to data retention, and increase that cost by sensitivity. If it costs 4x per month to keep and maintain someone’s SSN, and you don’t need to keep it, getting rid of it is a simple business decision. Regulated data requires controls that cost money and time. “Lesser” controls for unregulated sensitive data costs slightly less money and time, but more than commodity data. People start to care when you attach a dollar sign to cavalier data hoarding for no justifiable reason. You can’t legislate morality, but you can put a price on doing the right thing.

Continuous monitoring and improvement of identity management systems are essential for maintaining a robust security posture. This process involves leveraging analytics to assess user satisfaction, access efficiency, and compliance, allowing for real-time adjustments and enhancements. I've implemented policies mandating regular password changes, the use of complex passwords, and the prohibition of password reuse, alongside promoting the use of reputable password management tools. Advanced User Behavior Analytics (UBA) tools can detect anomalies in user behavior that may indicate a security threat. By integrating UBA into our security framework, I've been able to identify and investigate unusual access patterns or actions, often preempting potential security incidents. Having a well-defined incident response plan specifically for identity and access breaches is critical.

Considere implementar a prática de revisão periódica dos privilégios de acesso, garantindo que os usuários tenham apenas as permissões necessárias para suas funções. Once the requirements are ready, choose the appropriate identity and access management solution which facilitate the automated secure process of managing user identity, granting access, assigning privileges, regular user access review and revoking access. By following above steps, you ensure that right IAM solutions is implemented as per organization needs which improves your process and security.

I would leverage developing and regularly updating my organisation incident response plan to effectively respond to security incidents or data breaches. Encrypting sensitive data at rest and in transit to protect it from unauthorized access, even if IAM is not fully implemented is what I would also put into perspective.

Other important components are: 1. Defineing rules for creating user accounts, including setting up usernames, passwords, and assigning initial access rights. This should align with the principle of least privilege, ensuring users have only the access necessary for their role. 2. Implementing RBAC to manage access rights. Policies should specify how roles are defined, what access each role grants, and the process for changing a user’s role.
