All circuit design engineering is based on basics, there are no small engineering concepts, all are important. When one has a strong understanding of the basic concepts, including circuit analysis techniques, design becomes a natural extension of yourself. In someways you may feel like you are "sculpting" a circuit, shaping (iterating) it into what meets and or exceeds requirements and maybe even expectations.

The only way to learn if a design is ready for prime time is to test it beyond the requirement limits, test to failure if you can. In the area of analog circuits testing a design over the limits a allows one to see where a weakness might exist, or just observe and record what the operational dynamic range is. Experimenting and testing early is part of good design iteration and discovering a problem early in this design cycle allows time to correct it and move the design closer to production. Failure is not an enemy; one learns more from a failure than a success. The creative process is a difficult thing to harness or understand for that matter. The first thing to do is study how others have contributed to the specific problem you are working on, we stand on the shoulders of giants so research concepts thoroughly. After and continually with studying, design with ideas that you have adopted from your experiences to see if there is something you can add to classic concepts that may have been overlooked. Iterate analyze and iterate again, learn from it! Once you have a core design you might have about five iterations until its "good", it's just how it works. This is because as familiarity of a new design/concept increases so does your knowledge of how it works and how it might be improved.
