Train and learn to be an amazing storyteller. Create a story bank in your brain so you are always ready to illustrate a point with a Personal story. Never use notes. Speak from the heart and involve the audience. People will start to look forward to hearing you speak !!!!

The higher you go the more you need to be able to communicate. Operationally, strategically, internally, externally ect. Speaking can help establish and build a brand of a company, a service line and an individual. Most companies, employees and people listening to you speak want to hear your opinion or expertise in an area. This will lead to opportunities in the future. Partnerships, promotions, collaborations will build upon your ability to speak to larger audiences. The more you do it the better you will get.

In my current role and as I progress in my career, public speaking emerges as a paramount focus area. I've initiated efforts in this domain in 2024, aiming to attain expertise within the next 12-18 months. Recognizing its significance, I prioritize public speaking as it enhances my leadership presence, fortifies my brand and thought leadership, and fuels business development—an area of major focus for me. Moreover, when addressing critical topics like DE&I and ESG with top management and boards, public speaking cultivates credibility and fosters professional recognition. Developing this skill over the next 3-5 years is imperative to propel my career to the next level.

Mastering public speaking has been key for me. Being able to communicate in a way that resonates with your audience and in the clearest and shortest way possible. This has in turn helped me to put this into written posts on social media as well as video. Another few key things is talking from experience (using stories to do this) and being authentic. There is only one you so be proud and be you, don't try to be someone your not.

Another perspective to consider is the personal brand development that public speaking offers to executives. By consistently delivering valuable content and engaging with diverse audiences, executives can cultivate a unique personal brand.

When it’s something I care about I love it when I can see people visibly connecting to my message. And I never stand behind a lectern unless forced to ..and even then I usually stand beside it. Ridiculous to put something between you and the audience.

Sharing information with your people is the number one way of building trust. So public speaking is in essence critical in any leadership position, especially an executive.

When asked to give a presentation I always arrive early and wander around talking to the audience. I find this helps get to know how interested and how informed they are on the topic. Additionally, for me I feel like I am talking to new friends when presenting and so, I believe that doing this adds a certain fluidity to my presentation and the audience is more interested because they feel they know me.

It’s one thing to speak to your choir, it is another to speak to the crowd whose paycheques you do not sign. Margin for error a bit tighter than internal speeches!

If you plan to include questions from your audience, ones that you must answer sincerely and, if possible, with empathy, you also need to develop listening skills and habits.

In my experience, public speaking has helped me be better at communication in general and I consider it practice to my most important audience, my Team.

Probably the only strict rule in public speaking is what I call rule no. 1: “If they didn’t get it, they didn’t get it!” There’s no use in arguing that you mentioned it on slide 13 or that you meant it slightly differently. They didn’t get it. Which is actually good news because it means that if you really care about clarity, you’re going to look for better ways to tell your story. The feedback of your audience is a great guide towards finding the right words.

Quand on parle en public, c’est comme quand on raconte une histoire, on peut glisser quelques détails mais on sait précisément où on veut aller, ce qu’on doit démontrer, expliquer, et là où on veut emmener son public. In my experience, public speaking can help you build confidence in yourself as an expert and can also help define your professional brand. Here are some tips to consider: 1. Be authentic - speak about topics in a way that aligns with your values. 2. Be original - develop a style that connects the real you with your audience. 3. Do your homework - spend time researching your topic and don’t use old information. 4. Be sure to include an ‘Ask’ - what are you inviting your audience to do? 5. Refine your storytelling skills - people remember compelling stories and you want them to remember you. Like any ability, the more you practice the better speaker you will become.

The only thing that makes public speaking different than any other type of speaking is confidence. Because for public speaking, it's more you vs. you than anything else.

In my opinion when you thought about the position of Executive then you'll realise that you are not only one who have skills of Executive like Technical, some valuable certificate etc.but in this compitition you should make yourself and present in your workplace as unique and different person. Now how will you make it? The answer is to make yourself good at public speaking and communication. When you are good in speaking and building connections your half problem itself is solved, because you'll become influential compared to other executives. Overall Public Speaking gives people the opportunity to deploy their full potential whether hidden or not. At the same time making you more confident with each appearance you make, each stride, each mistake you make, each feedback that is received.

Elle peut renforcer le message et son impact sur le public. Néanmoins, la créativité ne vient pas inopinément. Il faut y travailler mais sans oublier le message.

By profession, I am a physiotherapist, but choice brought me to the development sector. When I began working as the head of this organization, my responsibility included raising funds where I had no prior experience. Here, I had learnt about public speaking in that it is no longer delivered conventionally, rather, with the advent of technology, the speaker and the audience can be in two different locations at the same time and achieve the same objective. This mode of public speaking is void of display of emotions and body language and I had no choice in choosing my audience. With my audiences having choices to donate, I had to become creative in not just telling my story but a credible story. This improved over a period of time.

Public Speaking always gives me an opportunity to explore new ideas, ask questions that challenge perspective, find creative ways to influence a mental shift with my audience with just a short interaction. Public Speaking helps to improve awareness for me first, then my audience, especially when it's done authentically. Gives you an opportunity to practice creative thinking.

This helps you enhance your communication skills with colleagues and subordinates 2. As an executive, public speaking helps you address challenges and conflicts with diverse perspectives. This improves your image as a leader

Correcting a wrong impression intentionally, with high arguments backed up with data, facts and figures. This is important so that audience will be better educated and engaged thereby empowered to make informed decisions moving forward.

Prepare for the worst, visualize the ideal and then do your best! I live by the motto of "Be flexible and solve problems", when speaking, something will almost always go wrong and if you have the mindset of being flexible, it's easier to go with the flow instead of being so rigid that it paralyzes you and makes the situation more awkward.

When preparing to speak publicly make sure to put the time and effort in; preparation is key. Knowing your audience and knowing what might resonate with them is of utmost importance. That effort and passion will arm you with resilience; and the power to pivot!

Developing resilience goes hand in hand with developing the ability to think on your feet. One time I was asked to an economic summit and I was told about the areas they needed us to speak about. The moderator went outside the question and started asking questions that looked like she had ulterior motives, completely going out of the original theme of the breakout session. I quickly saw why she was asking those questions and matched her questions with answers she didn't anticipate too, reminded her of why we were in that breakout session and proferred solutions and tips that were beneficial to the audience. The feedback afterwards was more than anticipated. So I'd say resilience and proactivity is a skill that we generate in public speaking

Excellent points of view but nothing will happen unless the executives spend time and it may be weeks or even months developing a voice of persuasion, clarity, varying volume, intimacy, energy and knowledge of how to support your voice. All speaking revolves around looking after your voice with a positive exercise program,a breathing format that will help with nervous tension and drinking lots of water. Water needs to be in your system to keep the throat lubricated and relaxed. Don’t rise from a breakfast, lunch or dinner table and go to the stage without warming up for at least ten minutes. Otherwise you will let yourself and your audience down.

People never grow tired of listening to a leader who can clearly articulate a compelling vision and a plan of action. As an executive, mastering public speaking helps you become a leader people choose to follow.
