You’re about to go into a job interview. What can you do to prepare?

Don't waste too much time with extensive research on an organization from their website. Look up press releases, dive into their mentions in the media, see what employees are posting on LinkedIn. You will learn more about a company from "unofficial" sources than you will from the "approved corporate communications". You'll also see pretty quickly what potential red (or green) flags are that you want to address with your interviewers.

Understanding a company's strategic direction and market positioning is crucial in an interview. By aligning your skills and experiences with the company's long-term goals, you demonstrate strategic fit and the potential to contribute to its success. Moreover, referencing specific company achievements or challenges during the interview can illustrate your deep engagement with the company's business narrative.

1. Research the company and the role thoroughly to understand their values, products, and industry position. 2. Practice common interview questions, focusing on your experiences and how they align with the job requirements. 3. Plan your attire, organize necessary documents, and prepare thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer.

When doing the research of the company, make sure you also cover the following topics: 🔹What are their strategic priorities? What are they investing in? 🔹What are their core products? what are the new products? 🔹Who are their key leaders? What companies did they come from? What is their length of tenure? 🔹What are their core products and core regions? 🔹Who are their target customer segment? This information will help provide better context of what is important for the company, for their leadership, and for their customers.

It's important that you practice your answers so that they are concise, informative, engaging and authentic. And remember that you should use the CAR (challenge, action, results).

Lo más importante es ser genuino en las respuestas, evitar respuestas preconcebidas. Incluso en LinkedIn o en la web encontraremos casos desarrollados, preguntas comunes en las entrevistas, etc. Las respuestas deben ser específicas. Si hay algo que no conocemos en verdad, es muy valorado aceptar que tenemos conocimientos básicos o nulos de un tema pero que tenemos el deseo de aprenderlo rápido para aplicarlo en nuestro día a día y ayudar a la organización. Evitemos la respuesta del "yo-yo", ya que los logros corporativos se dan trabajando en equipo.

Pienso que no está demás preguntar a la empresa cuál es el código de vestimenta o vestimenta apropiada para la cita pactada. Llegar 15 minutos antes a la entrevista puede denotar ansiedad por parte del candidato, llegar sobre la hora puede jugar en contra por algún contratiempo hasta llegar a la cita (acceso por caseta de vigilancia, inducción del visitante, identificación, etc.). Es necesario planificar la ruta y transporte. Si te hacen esperar, esto puede pasar. En mi última entrevista, esperé 20 minutos porque las reuniones anteriores suelen pasarse del tiempo establecido o también porque hay otro candidato antes que tú. Recomiendo tener el contacto de la persona que te convoca por si surge algún imprevisto o incluso para confirmar si hay acceso disponible para el vehículo si uno llega manejando hasta las instalaciones donde será la entrevista.
