I fully agree with this statement, however, finding a mentor is not that easy. First you have to uncover who’s a real leader in the space or just someone that has a lot of opinions, second, after identifying such individual you have to try to reach them which more often than not is an impossible task, and third the “tutor” must resonate with you at a personal and professional levels. Great to think about tutors but it’s harder than it seems to get one 🙏🏻

Make connections with people passionate about AI. They will introduce you to competitions, events, courses to improve your knowledge, start ups, companies working in AI. One such mentor for me when I was in college was my professor who introduced me to projects from big companies, good research papers, competitions, conferences etc.

All novices begin with tabular data and take their time learning various ways and exploring further. And ask questions to subject-matter experts on addresses like Twitter, Kaggle, LinkedIn, and more. Don't concentrate on text, music, images, or tables in a single session; everything is vital to the learning process. Spend some time learning everything inside that specific time frame. Finally, You eventually discover the passion for a certain field and data. My experience has led me to become passionate about 3D computer vision.

A mentor is crucial for those who are struggling and trying to learn. because mentors have extensive knowledge of learning and project management techniques. He has learned the correct route from experience. AI is also a broad field; a newbie can learn it in initial months. At times, everyone gets frustrated and moves on to other things (or outoff box). if the mentor shows up. He is pointing in the right direction. When selecting a mentor, start by selecting a field in which the mentor has extensive experience from both a project standpoint. AI is an R&D domain! Exploration is crucial. The best mentor when you are getting started about AI while in college are your seniors who have went through that process and knows better than a professional working in a company. Once you have found your right area, getting advice from professionals is worthy.

“I want to break into AI but I don’t have a mentor” is a question I have heard a lot in about 80% of my mentoring sessions. Finding a mentor requires patience and consistency in nurturing this relationship with another professional and randomly asking a stranger “Will you be my mentor?” is not the answer. Follow influential people in the AI field and evaluate if you would gain anything from their journey. You might want to take advantage of the public resources they share like courses, articles, book recommendations to start. You can request to schedule a one-time mentoring session with them to draft a plan to break into the field. Follow through the actions given and see if you can continue to connect for additional sessions as needed.

Read books on AI and connect with the authors of these AI books. You'll be surprised that some of these authors may provide free advice and guidance to help you with your questions about the topic or even in your career.
