Finally, make a set of criteria clear through which the requests can be evaluated, as a balance between immediate needs and strategic priorities. Discuss in your team to avoid wastage of resources on less important work. You must also keep customer feedback aligned with the strategic objectives through reviews. You may consider customer needs and handle urgent requests strategically, keeping your product vision and course in mind.

The alignment between a long-term product strategy and the short-term needs is a challenging task, either because it's tempting to postpone thinking about the future or because the day-to-day busywork can't be easily mapped to that strategy. To address the former, the only way I know is to reserve a time slot for specifically looking into the future, without any pollution from the present. To address the latter, I use that slot to inspect recent activity, evaluate in which that activity contributed to the strategy, and to build artifacts and mental models such as diagrams that represent the strategy in terms of the things in doing. Use those models daily: they are precious shortcuts.

Prioritization is the key. Understanding the customer/business impact and aligning with customer needs for the product strategy will result in shipping effective products to customers.
